Well having picked up the Tank Guard earlier this week I am delighted that I have encouraged Ray Havey Land Rover specialist to fit it tomorrow afternoon. Smile If I hadn't found a willing specialist I would have fitted it myself but, being right under the belly of the car, didn't strike me as a the most fun I could have

The marks on the underside of the guard are testament to it having done its job previously and I am looking forward to trying it out in anger.

The price above is extremely good for the sump guard and I would have had that as well if I hadn't already got one.

For anyone considering buying the sump guard I can confirm they are stupidly easy to fit and took me about 20 minutes including running the car on to some low ramps and finding the appropriate spanners.

Aside the obvious joy of having a, now rare, official G4 Challenge part I can confirm the sump guard is extremely useful even if you aren't intending an attack of rock bashing. Because it provides easy access to the front tow point it is far more convenient than faffing about with the original front trim piece should you need to recover someone.

Without the guard, if you are considering any group off roading, you really need to remove the front trim first, just in case, which really isn't very cool at all. And if someone doesn't get stuck you really aren't trying hard enough.

They tank plate is relatively easy to fit yourself .... provided you've got a trolley jack, decent spanners, a brain, oh and also decent instructions.
Mantec's supplied instruction leaflet isn't that good [a bit all over the place].

But these instructions are excellent.

You are a top man, that is extremely helpful.

I did have a look yesterday and, with reference to sundry internet sources (nothing like as good as your own) concluded, regrettably, the bracket set looks to have been left on the original vehicle. Crying or Very sad

I am now left with the situation of having to have replacement brackets fabricated. They aren't overly complicated fortunately but it is all time (and money).

I'm going to see what happens with Ray Harvey this afternoon. If I am going to be in for another £200 added the £50 for picking up the guard I might as well have bought a new one.

Ray (a legend in Land Rover preparation in Essex) and I wrestled the guard into submission with the application of cunning, guile, a good stock of flanged nuts and bolts, and a welder. It is now fitted as robustly as had it had the original fittings.

I still need to sort a permanent fixing for the handbrake cables but that isn't a priority.

The OP and I have been in correspondence and an amicable agreement has been arrived at over the brackets. A very pleasant guy and I can entirely understand the confusion which arose.

Indeed, apologies again T4. If only I'd managed to find the instructions when I dismantled it I'd have known not to leave the other bits behind. Embarassed

The sump guard however is complete with it's longer replacement bolts.

Just so I don't embarrass myself again can someone confirm that the only fittings required for the sump guard are 4 M10 x 50mm bolts?

The ones that come out of the pan and are put aside are M10x25. The kit comes with two lengths of bolts but I couldn't work out if the longer of the two went at the front of the back. It didn't seem to make any difference which way around they were.

You do need a longer than 25mm + 6mm Plate bolt as you need the slack to allow the plate to hang of the front bolts so as to align the back bolts.

I can't remember what was supplied but 4 x M10x50 should do the job fine. Ideally they should be skirted bots so that the heads bite the aluminium plate and don't come lose.
