Something loose in tailgate

There is something rattling around loose in the tailgate. Everything is working fine. What’s the best way to investigate? One Discovery, gone

Yes, comes off really easily and even goes back on just as easily!

I’m amazed, though, that you’ve had three FL2s and never had to do this! I’ve had one for three months and had to do it twice! 2005 D3 2.7 Auto

Not normally something loose, but the rear wiper is prone to water running down the shaft into the motor, resulting in the tailgate needing opened up to take the motor apart and fix it. Plenty of others have the tailgate release switch pack up, again resulting in the tailgate panel being removed. So taking that panel off seems to be a pretty routine part of FL2 ownership. Chances are someone has done this to yours and forgotten to tighten something up.

I replaced the wiper motor on my wife’s Golf a couple of weeks ago and when I was putting it all back together again, I couldn’t find one of the panel screws... Had to complete without it, but as soon as I shut the tailgate down I heard it rattle down to the bottom! I suspect something similar might have happened to yours! 2005 D3 2.7 Auto

Rattle

Trim retaining clip snapped off and floating around inside somewhere.

If you investigate, you will break more, so buy a big pack of them ready to replace the older and brittle ones.

Cheap on ebay, not from LR !

With mine it's the small trim at the top. The one you remove to get to the high brake light.

Taken it of several times to stop the damn thing leaking. Sorted now though.

Must get some new clips. Cheers JGH99. Freelander 2 GS Stornoway Grey
