The other night I was on my ipad on the MOT History website, its recently been updated so you know where your car was MOT'd - I spent a half an hour tracking my old cars to see where they are now. I then checked out the local news and there had been a fatality in the town where I live and the photo accompanying the article showed a Vauxhall Corsa patrol car blocking one of the lanes - I put the reg plate in the MOT history website and couldn't believe it = MOT OVERDUE!!!!!! It was a 63 plate and the MOT was due 31st December 2016 - this would have been its first MOT and the plod have been driving around in it for 10 months now - seems as though its one rule for us and one for them!

I seem to remember that Plod have Crown immunity, you'll also find that non of them are taxed either! REME .. Rough Engineering Made Easy |

The MOT web site is still in the beta version, there are still some errors and they ask that you report them. I've had number plates come up the the wrong car, wrong fuel etc.

Police Vehicles are probably some of the best maintained on the road. They don’t need to pop down to the garage for an MOT like we do. See link below

Same as MOD vehicles, the Army's vehicles have a yearly PRE (Periodic REME Examination) sort of MOT and servicing has to be spot on as repair/servicing documentation is also part of the inspection.

Going from memory from a previous life; most police and fire service vehicles are not required to have an MOT or road tax. Also due to the nature of the organisations they do not need to have insurance as private motorists and companies do as the respective organisations can cover any liabilities without recourse to outside services, i.e. insurance companies.

IIRC pretty much every Government organisation is exempt from MOT, Tax, and Insurance.

I work for the ambulance service and our vehicles are taxed, mot'd and such like. Perhaps ambulance service doesn't get lumped in with Government vehicles? |

My wife's first job in the 70's was as a Social Worker with an unnamed County Council up north. She had a Ford Escort company car and every 10k miles it would go into the county police workshops for servicing. It always came back with new tyres ! I wonder what happened to the old ones? 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto
