Police have their own rules

The other night I was on my ipad on the MOT History website, its recently been updated so you know where your car was MOT'd - I spent a half an hour tracking my old cars to see where they are now. I then checked out the local news and there had been a fatality in the town where I live and the photo accompanying the article showed a Vauxhall Corsa patrol car blocking one of the lanes - I put the reg plate in the MOT history website and couldn't believe it = MOT OVERDUE!!!!!! It was a 63 plate and the MOT was due 31st December 2016 - this would have been its first MOT and the plod have been driving around in it for 10 months now - seems as though its one rule for us and one for them!

Would love to report them but suppose i would have to get used to a life of being pulled over for random checks etc so they can extract their revenge!! Evil or Very Mad

The MOT web site is still in the beta version, there are still some errors and they ask that you report them. I've had number plates come up the the wrong car, wrong fuel etc.
Not saying your wrong but don't pre- judge. Now at the point when I learn something new something old is lost out the other side !
Now retired so it doesn't matter anymore.
Freelander now gone.

Police Vehicles are probably some of the best maintained on the road. They don’t need to pop down to the garage for an MOT like we do. See link below

Same as MOD vehicles, the Army's vehicles have a yearly PRE (Periodic REME Examination) sort of MOT and servicing has to be spot on as repair/servicing documentation is also part of the inspection.

There used to be a lot of Tipex used in a very short time just prior to inspections Laughing Most of the Data should by now be held electronically. REME .. Rough Engineering Made Easy

Yes, as pointed out by some already, here’s a slice of humble pie: http://www.ukmot.com/MOT%20test/mot%20exemptions.asp

Mr. Green

Even if you were correct, to suggest Police have their own rules is too much of a sweeping statement. It would be that particular force at fault. There are lazy, lying and downright corrupt cops out there who deserve to be sacked and in many cases charged with criminal offences. But they are eclipsed enormously by the good, hard working cops. Cops who will make honest mistakes at times. Bad response times for example are not down to cops, it’s down to a lack of them thanks to government cuts authorised by ministers with no grasp of the real world.

They work hard to keep people safe and solve crime and without them, we wouldn’t be able to criticise and claim how much better a job we could do from the safety of our homes and work places as we earn our stripes as keyboard warriors.

Just worth bearing in mind before slating the police as a whole and suggesting they would pull you over for revenge. Remember the wise words doing the rounds after the tragic death of PC Palmer in the terrorist attack at Westminster.

Maybe remind the few, if ill of us they speak, that we are all that stands between the monsters and the weak LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby

Going from memory from a previous life; most police and fire service vehicles are not required to have an MOT or road tax. Also due to the nature of the organisations they do not need to have insurance as private motorists and companies do as the respective organisations can cover any liabilities without recourse to outside services, i.e. insurance companies.

J

Edit: "outside services" also includes the taxpayer.

IIRC pretty much every Government organisation is exempt from MOT, Tax, and Insurance.

As has been said, they are serviced and maintained regardless of cost (subject to pre determined limits when the vehicle is then sent off to auction etc) so they have their own ''MOT'' rules.
Likewise government vehicles are exempt road tax, due to sheer number of vehicles and costs involved
and likewise for insurance, no government property is insured in general, as the costs would be ridiculous so all the various organisations have a crown exemption and pay out on claims on a case by case basis.

I work for the ambulance service and our vehicles are taxed, mot'd and such like. Perhaps ambulance service doesn't get lumped in with Government vehicles?

My wife's first job in the 70's was as a Social Worker with an unnamed County Council up north. She had a Ford Escort company car and every 10k miles it would go into the county police workshops for servicing. It always came back with new tyres ! I wonder what happened to the old ones?
