United Kingdom 2014 Freelander 2 SD4 SE Auto Santorini Black

I will bring the head unit with me when I go to collect the car seats today. Would like the new one back as it wasn't cheap. Question is who removes it. Car can't leave the garage and I'm concerned if I do it, I crack a clip or something and then they get difficult. Learned to drive in 2011.
Bought a Micra - great little car
"Upgraded" to Kia Sportage - hated it

They could remove it at their discretion if they wish and it is probably in their interests to do so if they go on to sell the car. Ultimately the unit is your responsibility so they might just say you sort it or get someone to come along with you to help. It's your property of course. LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby

It all seems a bit extreme for something that could be a relatively minor fault... Shocked

I think the issue here Mikey is that the OP has no confidence in the product. As we know only too well, everything has the ability to fail at some point regardless how new it is and who makes it. Car manufacturers should be renamed as assemblers as in this day and age almost all car parts are sourced externally and manufactured by third parties, all the car maker does is assemble all the parts to produce an end product.

You're right, it might be minor, but the error codes said there were multiple cylinder misfires and something to do with a catalytic converter issue.

If it has been a brake, or an electrics issue, that's one thing, but not the engine. Not on a car that's only done 13k. I don't know enough about engines to be confident that no further damage was caused that would show up later.

I may of course end up buying another car that this has happened to and I don't know about it, you pays your money and all that. Learned to drive in 2011.

You have to do what you feel is right for you, I'm sure we have all lost confidence in a vehicle for one reason or another, normally this is after a few years of ownership/issues. Eventually we sell that vehicle on and move on to the next, that normally restores the faith for a while.

0k, the Glasgow branch are apparently waiting on a report from the Edinburgh branch on what is wrong with the car and whether or not the fault was there when they sold it.

Is that relevant? Learned to drive in 2011.

For you, no not really, it's for the garage to "prove" that the fault was not there when they sold it to you as the fault occurred within the first 6 months of ownership. The Doctor can give a more precise term I'm sure.

Stick to your guns if you want to go the refund route as it is less than 30 days since you purchased, don't be swayed by jargon put to you by the dealership.

I just phoned him back and assured him that the only relevant point is that the fault occurred within 30 days of us buying the car, not whether it was there when they sold it. He agreed then changed his tune and said he needs a report to show that the car hasn't been involved in anything.

This is going to be fun. Learned to drive in 2011.

Garage phoned back to say issue was a faulty coil pack which has been replaced and was no big issue and asked if we still wanted to return the vehicle. I've said yes as we have already made the decision.

Interestingly I've just let my wife know, who was there when the RAC came out and he told her that he has loads of cool issues and water ingress on the Fiat engines (which is what the Ka has) and that if the issue is a coil issue it won't be the last. Whether or not that is the case is anyone guess, but interesting none the less. Learned to drive in 2011.

At least now the garage know you are still deciding to return the vehicle, did they give you a timescale for the refund?

Garage has called and said they will do the refund. However they need the V5 to do so and we don't have it yet Sad Learned to drive in 2011.

I take it they sent that off on your behalf when you purchased? Do you have the V5C/2 section?

It can take up to 6 weeks to get a new V5 from the DVLA
