OEM Battery

Just to let anyone who's after a new battery know that I took a punt on a new battery off eBay a month ago for my 2010 stop start Freelander, AGM 80AH £270 + vat from the dealer, £90 below.

The battery I received was identical to the one I took off OEM and has a Land Rover sticker on it & dated 2016. Spoke to the guys selling them & they said they brought a job lot.

Been on the car a month now through this early cold weather all good & my car gets left for a week sometimes without starting.

I think that they possibly have been marked in the factory so not suitable for a brand new car, mine had a small area of scratching to the side.

Please make your own decision on purchasing mines been great, but you never know & I don't want the blame for a duff one. Thumbs Up

Only one left by the looks of things.

All tyres and batteries are stamped with their production date and I read somewhere that things like tyres and batteries have to be installed on a new vehicle within 3 months (?) of manufacture or they are deemed "past their sell by date" and sometimes (perhaps the production line was stopped for some reason) a batch will have to be offloaded into the trade. Has anyone else heard of this? 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

If the product picture is correct I would wonder if its a VARTA as looking online I found they look something like this.

May just be a generic picture. FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

It could be that this model is not used on any current LR products. In which case if they found a stash of them somewhere in the supply chain they would need to get rid of them before they get too old! Ex AA Series III LWB Safari - Gone

Its definitely the one fitted to my MY2010 FL2. There are cheaper "new" ones on eBay (with most of the ID sticker removed) and from a dealer an OEM one is less price as well with the warranty

Couldn't see any? These are Stop Start AGM batteries not normal lead acid batteries.

Please be aware of the below as well. This is an extract from the Land Rover battery manual from this site. Only found this out today & can give you the impression of a duff battery as the BMS will continue to charge at the old battery charging capacity.

"BATTERY REPLACEMENT
If it is determined that a battery requires replacement, always refer to the appropriate section of the workshop manual for instructions on removing the battery from the vehicle.
On vehicles fitted with a Battery Monitoring System (BMS), the BMS module must be reset following the installation of a new battery. The BMS module reset procedure must be performed using an approved diagnostic system."

Can't just swap a battery anymore! Neutral

I think if you search around a bit you'll find that this has been covered, and that the battery module will reset itself if the reset has not been carried out!
Edit: Here is the complete text. The module will self-reset but may take a little time:
If a new battery is fitted to the vehicle, the BMS (battery monitoring system) module will require recalibrating to register the greater charge holding capacity of the battery, this is performed using Land Rover approved diagnostic equipment. If diagnostic equipment is not available the BMS module will recalibrate automatically however, this could take 48 hours to complete depending on vehicle usage. The Stop/Start system will not function correctly until the BMS module is recalibrated. Ex AA Series III LWB Safari - Gone

Great thanks PM, that last part wasn't in the manual I down loaded "JLR 13 65 10_1E (Edition 1)" I wonder what 48hrs depending on driving means?

Most people who have posted on here (a search will find them) say that the stop-start worked straight away. I imagine the system just needs a bit of use to settle down and sort out its parameters. Ex AA Series III LWB Safari - Gone

New battery arrive Tuesday and fitted it in the dark in 15 mins. Job's a good'n.

....and as I'd expected / hoped, the stop start system that hadn't worked for some time now works perfectly. Very Happy Thumbs Up

When I replaced my Battery a couple of years ago I just did a straight swop, I had read about the BMS taking up to 48 hours to reset, my car had only gone a couple of hundred yards before the stop start kicked in! Black MY2013 SD4 GS Auto, Wood Company Armrest, Freel2 sticker.
