WB Greenstar 32 CDi thermostat

Just bought a Owl Intuition CE wireless thermostat

The issue I have is the boiler original thermostat was normal open connection

When i wire this in, this means it off all time and won't switch it on, if I swap wires over its on all the time

Can't work out if I have wired it wrong or a faulty unit has been bought (second hand)

Anyone understand what the boiler needs or can it have either Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

If you wire it to normally open, then when the temperature drops the thermostat contacts close and the boiler should fire up. Take it you have Intuition c page 14 of the manual my PC is slightly to the right of Genghis

Sounds like you have connected it up wrong, the boiler will send a 'live' out that gets switched and it returns to the boiler.
What connections are on the thermostat?

I would have thought it was wired as the old one, but it doesn't seem to switch

Need to work out how to trip it and see if the relay is working, I have a feeling it isnt Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

When I next look at it, if I touch the two wires should this active the boiler? Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

If you set it to a high temp check common and 4 are short circuit. You will need to follow the set up procedure, have you paired the thermostat to the room sensor and the unit indicates paired, it is easy to make an error if in doubt press the resets and start again my PC is slightly to the right of Genghis

I've checked the wiring last night and shorting leads, made circuit and heat came on

So this morning it was a full reset and paired fresh, guessing something had gone amiss the first time round as the system works now

Cheers Guys Bow down

Dartman , do you have this system ? Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

Just a word of caution, this is not safe to do, I think the feed wire is at mains voltage not low voltage. Thumbs Up

Hi npinks, no not that one, I have the Salus iT 500 which is similar in operation, when I set mine up it wouldn't work though paired, I had missed or jumped a step, after doing my nut and much swearing and cursing I switched it all down pressed any reset I could find then followed the step by step set up and it worked. I know that feeling, i did the same, seems to be working, but time will tell

I have my standby temp at 15c and my comfort setting at 19c and the average internal temp of my hour is 20.4c so the heating hasn't had to switch on itself since installing it.

Quiet happy with that, even with a colder night the temp stays same, or so the system states.

Hopefully we will have the bleak winter forecast and the system will come alive on its own and i'll know its working Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

i did this and there was no spark, or flash, but the heater did come alive, so i think its a low voltage circuit from the PCB board Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

The iT500 has a portable room sensor that controls the the thermostat relay/logic gate, we place the sensor in the room we are in, so if a dinner party it is in the dining room to keep us at the required temp, if we move to the sitting room then it comes with us so the heating will switch on for that room. works well in our house as it is quite sprawling and can have quite different temperatures depending on the number of people in the rooms even though the rads all have rad stats. my PC is slightly to the right of Genghis

There is a low voltage and a mains voltage way of switching, you seem to have found the low voltage one.

very true, this unit is 240v, but the old one wasn't so i had to supply a new power source (read cable of a vacuum plugged in to a socket)

Now when you turn off the fused spur and forget you did power by a socket, you must remember that those other blue and brown wires still buzz you and you'll shake your hand in pain Laughing Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis
