These are worth their weight in gold to tighten screws in difficult corners, especially the small set which has a baby ratchet:

Test fit of the module carrier and all is well!

One fastening bolt will be interesting come time to bolt it in for good but there's always one Rolling Eyes Have decided for the time being to leave the module carrier out as it gives me more room to complete the wiring for the Telephone Interface Module.
Pilot test of the RSE and all is ready there!

I'll send these off to the trimmer now to be finished in Ebony Grained Leather.
Protective film is still on the screens so that's why it has bubbles and opaque appearance.

Now it's time to complete the TIM wiring, MS & HS CAN, power from RJB and ground.
Have measured required lengths for LVDS cables and need to try source these locally as the LR ones are still are B/O without a supply date. MY15

It is a Bahco set which I got in a hurry to replace a tap in a miserable position with a 1/2" extended socket, using a 1/2" square drive to 1/4" hex adapter. Probably paid way too much but it did make life a lot easier. One wouldn't want to over stress the baby ratchet drive, a bit of common sense if that still exits these days, but it beats removing a spanner every 1/12 of a turn!

I then bought the larger set which has been handy as well. Especially on my fuel tank holders redesigning the setup endlessly with its trillion hex bolts! Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

Custom harness for MS CAN, Infotainment HS CAN, pwr and ground made and ready to instal.

All termination clearly labelled and will probably double even triple check before installation to be sure.
Decided to make all CAN connections at the touchscreen, even though there is a MS CAN branch at the memory seat module, just for ease of installment as there is a Infotainment HS CAN twisted pair already going from TIM to touchscreen.

Only things left to do is install module/wiring and source the LVDS cables which I'm doing as we speak but still don't have an answer or time-frame for sourcing these cables, bit worrying! Nothing will work without these cables.... Big Cry MY15

Today was installation of the main electrical harness. Two wires being chased backwards from under the front drivers seat to the RJB, purple = TIM Power, WH-BU = RSE module main power (future project) may aswell do it now. Ground was courtesy of the module carrier fixings, nice and easy.
Remaining twisted pairs, MS CAN & Infotainment HS CAN going forward of the driver seat along the central console and up behind the IAM and touchscreen.

Rear seat removed starting at rear of centre console and using my trusty house electrical wire chaser fed the wires enclosed in flexible convoluted conduit under the carpet and out under the RJB ready for connection.

So everything is now bolted into place, all wiring is now pluged in apart from LVDS leads between TIM and touchscreen.
Final connections are next.

LVDS leads......well that's another story Whistle a flurry of emails on Friday of which one to the JAE supplier in America so won't know outcome until Tuesday. MY15

Main power to TIM done!
RJB fuse pigtails soldered to main supply feeds to TIM (Violet) and RSE (WH-BU).

Both rows of fuses circled are supplied through the "Diagnostic Ring Break" circuit for the MOST Network. As the TIM is a part of the infotainment system this means that the TIM can be rebooted as a part of the whole infotainment system network. Ended up placing the TIM 10amp fuse next to the 5amp fuse for the amp. The amp has two power supplies, 5amp for the General ECU operation and a 40amp for the main driver. Reason being as the gang was already there whereas the top row was missing the last position gang as you can see from second photo. So have put the Rear Screen Entertainmemt power supply there instead to connect at a later date.

Both supply wires inserted into appropriate fuse locations.

Back together with 10amp fuse in TIM location.

Healthy 12.6 volts at TIM ECU main harness.

Next is the MS & Infotainment HS CAN connections.

There's been a development with the LVDS cables and not for the better which I will elaborate on a little later, I'm still working through the options, including emails to Japan now, let's just say this is going to delay this project now.

On the other hand there has been a development in the Rear Media System which I will also elaborate on shortly and this means I will not be going ahead with the system I currently have but is more suited to my application. MY15

Need to put something straight here and correct some information in the earlier part of this project/thread in regards to the LVDS leads and hence been my headache in this project so far.
In earlier research and help from XDave there was an assumption that all the LVDS plugs in the infotainment network are all JAE MX38 series. This is incorrect as I've recently discovered.

Marked is red on the IAM and touchscreen are the JAE MX38 Series plugs.
Circled in green on the TIM is, I've recently discovered, are MX48 Series plugs.
MX48 series plugs similar to MX38, for twisted shielded pair but a slimmer profile plug.
LVDS MX38 series plugs are all used between infotainment modules such as IAM, touchscreen, RSE, TV, Asia/Japan Nav modules etc in all JLR vehicles.
After a lot of researching by Cambo and myself it appears that the TIM is the only module in the infotainment network to use these.

So where I/we thought we'd have plenty of choice of spare cables.....we Infact don't.
Luckily I do have the TIM pigtails that came with the module and was bloody lucky to have these as I may have to resort to cutting a LVDS harness with MX38 series terminations and solder on the MX48 series for the TIM, not ideal but would work. This is my fallback position.
Im currently waiting for information on some longer than requires leads that should do the job, but at a price!

EDIT; Oh and I have contacted both the distributor for JAE in the Asia Pacific, who in fact have their warehouse here in Perth and the reply from JAE is that they cannot supply plugs, only the female socket which is no use to me as the module already comes with the socket, because the male socket is a harness product only. So no joy in that option. MY15

MS & HS CAN harness chased through to behind the touchscreen.

Connection of the MS CAN calls for "best practice" wire splicing and soldering technique here as you don't want a bad joint!
I'll add here that this is better than JLR production method which is crimp, glue & tape!!!
CAN wire stripped.
Copper wire parted and new MS CAN wire from TIM introduced.

Wire twisted and then soldered for a perfect joint.

HS Infotainment CAN was simply inserting pins into position 9 & 10 on the main plug back of touchscreen.
Well, not that simple as you have to release the locking mechanism in the plug which can be a little tricky whilst purched on the end of the passenger seat with ya head down the middle of the dash board Laughing Rolling Eyes

I'd also like to add that none of this was done without multiple checks of wiring diagrams and connectivity with a multi meter throughout this whole procedure. Slow and steady wins the race is my motto as well as check. double check, triple check!
Still no news on LVDS leads as yet, waiting, waiting, waiting Rolling Eyes MY15

It would make everyone's life so much easier if there were far less variations of connectors. It is all such a pointless waste of resources on every level. Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

It's mind blowing the amount of different configurations of connectors there are. A lot of it is for production reasons making sure connectors don't end up in wrong places. But on a selfish level this does add to the challenge and my enjoyment. My inner nerd is very happy even though it's frustrating at times trying to source bits. MY15
