Aircon Noise

I have read this thread:

Did the re-gas and the noise is not gone....

The noise seems to be linked to the refs of the car, immediately stops if aircon is turned off.

Aircon is still working but this noise is driving me crazy. almost sounds like an electrical saw, grinder growling type of noise.

if the refs lower or you stand still a little while it fades away...

Thought so, I am handy with working on vehicles, change my own brakepads (not un my Freely yet though), intending to clean out my powerstearing reservoir next etc.. Don`t love splashing cash to pay someone else to do something I could have done myself.
Do you know what such a fix entails and if an attorney/car-junkie like me will be able to fix it with my toolbox and my soft keyboard hands? Haha
If so is there any guide that I can follow?

First time I washed down my engine bay the car kicked off Big Cry it did not like it and screeched Censored . Answer was liberal spraying of bike chain spray (a bit like a type of WD40 with lubricant added) with enging running. Car loved it and all good but keep away from air intake as it may lead to early blocking of air filter.

So question is did you get the engine soaked recently and if so try a good spray over with similar gear. Thumbs Up FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

It's a very easy fix, if you take the front off the clutch off you can see the bearing
My one was very clearly dead
I can't remember the procedure for removing the clutch, I think it's one bolt after removing the front cover + releasing belt tension
I will post the size of the bearing later
When u look at the clutch after removal you will see it needs supporting very near to the bearing before you press the old one out
Or you will Censored up Rolling with laughter 2008 xs

Yes basically the same, but no way would I hammer out the old one like that

Ok, I have the clutch out. but its seems that it was "pressed" into place?

how did you get it out and the new one "pressed"

into place?

Good news, ground out the pressed metal with a pencil grinder, hammered out the old bearing and used the old bearing to hammer in the new bearing. The size was correct thank you. Cqr

Punched the metal as well to hold it in place.

Bad news, the noise is not gone Big Cry However, i did note that one of the plastic wheels is spinning to freely and seems to make a slight noise when turned, will replace that as well as a laste measure. Suspect the extra tension of the aircon is making it sing!

If this does not work it must be the compressor itself as it only makes the noise when the aircon is engaged and that would be very bad news for my wallet....

Replaced the idler and noise is still present. All points to the compressor wil now let a specialist take a look at it.

I have experienced the same noise twice and on both occasions a regas stopped it.
However, it was noisey again at the last annual service in January (101,000 miles) and my INDY checked it out for leaks, regassed and all quiet - until today.
We have just come back from a 2,000 round trip to Luxembourg and the Italian Alps and it is back again. Air Con appears to be working normally!
Perhaps they do just tend to be noisey?
By the way, we avaraged 35.2mpg over our trip and 80% of it was on autoroutes averaging 78mph - why can't we build roads like those on the continent - apart from Belgium that is. Tattoos - Why would you choose to look like the wall of a public toilet?

TRT, can you maybe ask your indy what Bar did he pump your aircon as there are two valves which got pumped very different pressures with my regas and it was not done by Land Rover as they don`t do it themselves in our country. They refer you to the cheapest one they use and maybe they got the pressures wrong.[/quote]

I'm convinced my system has a small leak but nobody can find it. Tattoos - Why would you choose to look like the wall of a public toilet?

Regarding earlier message - a regas/oil has cured the problem - all silent again Tattoos - Why would you choose to look like the wall of a public toilet?
