Hi Mostyn, I would agree on using premium fuel. Recently started using cooking Shell instead of Sainsbugs. Found a station that only costs 2p more per litre in Worksop. Runs much better, smoother, and pulls better. Maybe a bit better on mpg. Can't tell if it is any cleaner but passed MOT with no issues today. I have a partial blanking plug fitted and, as expected, made no difference on test. I will now be fitting a full blank.

Ps. See my reply re your post on swirl flaps.

I think in time with higher milers it may pay off in the long term with better fuel. With a loyalty card (BP near me accepts Nectar card) it partially offsets the cost ...

Hi Mostyn128, ordered full blanking plate today. If this order sent as speedily as the last one should be here Tuesday. Will fit on Friday. From posts I have read it looks like the heat from exhaust gases are frying the swirl flaps. So blanking of makes sense. Also, then egr valve does not have to be cleaned. It is now redundant. We'll see when it's fitted.

Fitted mine today.... 10 minutes - 2 tiny bolts - unscrew slot in and re tighten.

Easiest thing I ever done..

I am concerned that the one above has no hole in - apparently that will bring on MIL

(sorry I only read page 1 - didnt see pages 2-3 until just now - can anyone confirm if the full plate brings the MIL light on or not)

Hi Superdave, as yours is a 2008 it should be fine to fit a full blanking plate (no hole) as you will not have a DPF and EGR will not be monitored. Mine is a 2007 and will be fitting plate this week

For about 3 minutes while cold engine this morning it did some whistling.....

For £4 might try the full plate.

fitted the plate with the hole: I know that solution is pointless but I have this plate in my vallet since months so finally I took my time to fit and test.

All is OK: no DTC

Is there any noticeable change?
I am looking for getting rid of the lag when starting from stand still, i can not find the middle point where the car will just react immediately to throttle move, unfortunately too less throttle will produce a lag and too much will produce to violent response (not desired in city traffic).

In theory the EGR can be the cause of that.

Hi all, fitted full blanking plate today. Removed the partial blanking plate first. Absolutely caked in soot. Hard to see from photo but is 2mm thick I think there was more in the pipe but did not want to dislodge any into the inlet.

This plate has only been on the car for about four weeks and maybe 700 miles. God only knows how much has gone through the hole. I don't know if my EGR is stuck open all of the time or not but I'm glad to have blanked it off.

Hasn't turned into a Ferrari but smoother still up through the revs and on pull away than with the partial.

To early to say if there is any improvement in MPG but I'm more interested in how she drives really.

No fault codes or lights (as expected).

While I was under the bonnet ran a ratchet over the turbo/intercooler hose clamps. Removed drivers side front wheel to get to the turbo itself. Some were weeping oil and I was amazed at how loose they were. Not sure if they might have been leaking air a bit. No splits as far as I can see. Might invest in some silicone versions one day.

hi JGH thank you so much for your report, very appreciated.

compared to mine, your EGR pipe seems to carry a lot of soot! I've checked mine some days ago ( I'm testing the restrictor as I'm DPF equipped) and honestly I was suprise about how relatively clean was my pipe/intake after 143000 km Shocked

Hi Sergio977, yes I was surprised. But now I think my EGR may well be seized open. Car has gradually been getting worse over the last year. Now drives like when I first had her.

Hopefully will continue to improve as the inlets gradually clear all of the Censored out.

In the last days i research the all EGR subject and most are claiming that if your DPF valve will stuck open your DPF will be blocked much faster therefore i am starting to doubt the theory that a DPF cars need the restrictor and not fully blanked has the EGR is a particle source.

Your thoughts on this are welcom
