England 2012 Freelander 2 SD4 Sport Auto Barolo Black

I had Egr issues on a previous vehicle with the Egr not opening and hence putting the Eml on , the vehicle was very eager and had plenty of go when required. When i came to sell it i had a brand new Oe quality pierberg Egr fitted to solve the Eml light coming on , sadly the car wasn't anywhere near as smooth or responsive . Get it blanked off , Egr's and Dpf's are the work of the devil Twisted Evil .

are there any detrimental effects on the engine components?

The engine can take a little longer to warm up, as it's getting cold air in place of hot exhaust, so I suppose that could cause increased wear if you do a lot of very short journeys. But I've not found warm-up to be a problem and the effects on the engine are basically all good.

EGR lowers cumbustion temperatures by diluting the oxygen in the cylinder and absorbing extra heat, which is how they reduce NOx. For this reason, they shouldn't function until an engine is up to temperature, so an increase in warm up time should be the last thing you see. Thumbs Up

Naturally, removing the soot from the engine can only be of benefit in terms of wear and longevity and my vote ismost certainly to blank! Freelander 2 2007 TD4 Manual HSE Tambora Flame

Can anyone who has done this confirm if blanking the EGR cause engine light to come on in the dashboard?

United Kingdom 2007 Freelander 2 TD4 GS Manual Stornoway Grey

Hi all,

I took a cautious approach and fitted the version with small hole on my 2007 two weeks ago. Pulls more smoothly below 2000rpm. Fuel consumption has improved slightly. I drive 20 miles to work and back each day on a mix of A roads and country lanes. Rarely get over 50mph. I normally get 35.5mpg over the week. Since fitting plate I'm getting 37.0mpg. Nothing incredible but 4% increase.

I will try the full blank when this one has been on for a couple more weeks.

will be interesting to see if this makes any further improvement.

Cheers, JGH99.

Just to add, no issues with lights on dash, no fault codes.

Pre-facelift without dpf just blank
Post-facelift only remap
Pre-facelift with dpf maybe the blanking plate with hole will works...

@Impact

sounds good. Are you DPF equipped?

You fit a restrictor or a full blank plate?

Very Happy

the "problem" are the DPF equipped pre-facelift ( 112 kW engine) ....nobody knows if the blanking plate and/or restrictors ( plate with the hole) works Laughing

I have to try on mine...I've to find time to do that Laughing

otherwise, a "DPFectomy" surely works
