Hi Sandy, It's quite straightforward to do if you are handy with a spanner...
Remove engine cover, slacken off pipe retaining bolt, slacken off two bolts on end of pipe, slide plate into place, retighten everything in reverse.
This is where I got it from, theres a few pics there aswell shows you where it goes:

Interesting - did you go for the one with the hole in it?!

In his ad it says "Blocking the EGR system on these engines completely will put on the engine management light/warning on, unless the egr valve is mapped out. I also list it with a hole in (111585366725), so that the warning light should not come on".

Is there any downside to doing this?

I fitted the one without a hole. As far as I know...
If its pre my10 then you can fit one without a hole, and not get any faults etc ( I haven't had any errors)
If its my11 or after then the one without a hole will cause a fault, so the hole is needed to let a bit through.
I think!?

I'm not sure of that: from my experiences, I never seen a DTCs or Engine lights caused by an EGR blank( without hole, 100% blank): even on newer model ( MY12/MY13) or also on the 2.2 SD4 Evoque.

What I seen, is that the impossibility to blank post 2010 Fl2 without DTCs is a WebMith Very Happy

I don't think it can be done on the facelift models(MY11 onwards) is that correct? i did have a problem on my MY13 -reduced power mode while towing the caravan to be exchanged in Dorset ! I have 2 years free Landrover Breakdown and they came out very promptly, said "it's the EGR sticking. I asked if it could be blanked off and he said no, it's a really hard job because it was at the back of the engine now not at the front. Local dealer repaired under warranty. Interesting towing back to Devon on reduced power though! Sport/ command shift all the way! Just a bit slow up the hills! MY 2013 SD GS Auto

Hi ianfish, I blanked ( with the cheap Ebay plates, as explained on Steven.T previous posts ) the EGR of:

-my FL2 ( my2007)
-my friend FL2 ( my2012)
-my friend FL2 ( my2013)
-my neigbour Evoque 2.2 ( my2013)

without any issues (all these cars are DPF equipped, and without modifications) Thumbs Up

If you had the problem when towing, maybe the issue wasn't due to EGR... Confused

that's interesting, I heard that it was at the back of the engine and difficult to get at.

No it wasn't anything to do with towing , just happened then , fault code was EGR valve sticking, replaced, fine now. MY 2013 SD GS Auto

You can fit it to the facelift car, but they make no difference. Freelander 2 HSE Lux 2013MY - Barolo Black with Ivory Leather. Alpine DVD - Privacy -Evoque 20" Dynamic Wheels and more to come.........

It should make a noticeable difference if the EGR valve is stuck open. Otherwise no, you won't see a difference. Ex AA Series III LWB Safari - Gone
300TDi Disco (bought new - terrible car) sent back after 18 months
Freelander 1 Estate - leased, given back at end of lease
200TDi Disco (bought from a mate with 100,000 on the clock) - Gone
Disco 2 TD5 - sold and exported to France
FR2 TD4 GS - Gone
FR2 SD4 HSE - Now changed for a DS
New model ex-demo Evoque S 180 in white
Unable to order a new DS, so gave up. Now have a Volvo S90 Recharge.

Fitted a blanking plate today to my 2008 model and noticed an immediate difference already. Fitted these to all my diesels so far and have had no problems yet. Most systems have a recirculating device purely for emissions and quick warm up for city smog control.

2700 miles later and what a nice car it is to drive, fuel consumption is now rock steady at 36mpg, I am quite ham fisted at driving the car so do not drive economically at all. Overall pleased with with this simple modification
