Video works fine, does sound a bit rough I must say?
An oil level check might be wise, but it doesnt look as though theres leaks on yours? unless it never was filled up properly to start with?
I suppose the only way is for someone else not experiencing the noises you do to check their diff and see if its the same.
It would mean overalls on and going under the car, I might be able to do it later today and report on mine Thumbs Up

Ive had a quick look under mine although I havent been under with it jack up. Shocked
But theres no in out play on either half shaft at the diff and only very slightly, hardly detectable in out at the prop to diff.
There is a slight gear noise if I try to rotate the prop.

Mines done 12000 miles and its a 2014, I think it looks the same Haldex mk4? the one with the bump on the cylinder, as yours the later one??
I dont get any noises on the move on mine, in fact the car is rather nice and quiet inside. Very Happy

Thanks Landi and Turbo!

I have been under this morning and checked the Haldex level. My understanding is that when filling it is filled upto the filler level, then engine on to heat the Haldex then remove 70ml? Assuming 70ml over that area isn't very much in level terms I would expect to at least get some oil on my little finger (the car wasn't jacked up and on a slight uphill slope, so the level would artificially high). Nothing! I have one of those umbilical inspection cameras, poked that in, whilst the inside casing is 'damp' with oil there is no oil to be seen. The camera can only go in so far, but I cannot see a pool of oil.

No visible leaks on the casing so where could it have gone (or as Landiroamer suggests was it all there in the first place!)?

Any suitable equivalents to the Statoil SL01-301 anyone know about?

PS, it is a Gen4 Haldex - MY10

PPS, Landiroamer, the play I'm trying to show on the driveshaft into the diff is an up and down 'play' not in and out by the way Smile 2010MY 2.2 e4 (gone but, not forgotten)

Theres no up down either at all on mine.

Do you know the service history of your car? has it had a pinion bearing done in the past and they forgot to top it back up properly maybe? one would hope they come from the factory right.

I will take a look at mine later and let you know if I have similar noises, need to get under there to check out an oil leak Evil or Very Mad . Just for info, when filling the Haldex, what you have explained is correct although you don't turn the engine on only the ignition, so press the starter without your foot on the clutch and leave for five mins. There is not much room inside the haldex, so a little may go a long way but I suspect yours may be low on fluids.

The haldex oil is cheaper from Volvo or ask a good garage to source the oil as you can get a litre can cheaper then Landover silly tubes. I used some new cattle reviver syringes to drain and top up my oil as they have a good measure gauge on them to extract the correct amount of oil out.
When I did my oil I only had a sort of sludgy mess inside must of extracted about 30ml as the rest had dried up as it wasn't checked until 80,000 miles as Landover told me the usual Censored about only needing it changing every 150k or 10 years.
Vw recommend every 20k miles for there haldex units.

Landiroamer: hmmm, the up and down movement on both sides are quite excessive on mine. I have service history but no indications of pinion repair.

Richp: thanks for the filling info. Using that camera I couldn't see any oil at all. I would have expected some sort of level especially as the car was sloping up.

Turboextreme: I don't have a LR dealer near me but a Volvo one not too far away. Interesting you mention the oil drying up. I'm hoping this is part of the solution. 2010MY 2.2 e4 (gone but, not forgotten)

Sorry haven't had chance yet to go and jack mine up, will do after breakfast. If the oil is low and you have a thick sludge, it may be difficult to extract it if you don't intend removing the haldex from the car. I would fill as per the recommendations then run the car for fifty miles to get the sludge dissolved in the new oil, then extract as much as possibly and refill.
When I did my oil change on the haldex it was darker than expected, about the right viscosity but there was not as much in there as there should have been. I am going to top mine up every six months to make sure the fluid levels are as they should be. I will also do the same with the diffs.

@Philclemo, checked my rear half shafts this morning and no noise, slight play in and out (2mm) with no play up or down. Same with drive shaft.
Hope that helps.

If that is price per litre then it's better from LR! The eBay offer is 0.6L of the Haldex oil, and only 1L of the Diff oil, going by LR's prices that would be a bit of profiteering going on by that seller. I think a trip to my local Volvo parts dept is in order! 2010MY 2.2 e4 (gone but, not forgotten)

Right. I've been away last week so no updates until now! I purchased some Haldex oil yesterday and today topped up. I put approx. 250ml in and extracted 70ml as per procedure, so nett 180ml in. Result is no clunking in reverse etc. happy days.

I plan to purchase a filter, and do a complete oil change in the very near future as when I extracted the 70ml, what came out was quite a bit darker than went in.

Many thanks to all who contributed their own experiences and observations. Great forum, as ever! 2010MY 2.2 e4 (gone but, not forgotten)
