Garmin 7" DEZL 760 Sat Nav Installed

When I bought my GS, I thought the factory Sat Nav was an extortionate price as an add on. Couldn't afford an HSE. So bought a Garmin 5" 1490T which sat at the front of the cubby hole, above the radio, but it always looked what it was - an after thought! Recently bought a Garmin 7" Dezl 760 to replace the little 5" Garmin but decided to try and mount it in the cubby hole space. After a morning spent removing the radio bezel, and making up a bracket to secure the Garmin, the end result is brilliant. Looks just like the factory Sat Nav except at a fraction of the cost.

This Sat Nav has a rear view camera option, which is the next mod to be carried out. Camera to be mounted on the rear of our newly aquired 24' Swift Caravan.

How does the reverse camera communicate with the sat nav?

The camera I am looking at is the Garmin BC20 or BC30 which communicate wirelessly. There is a transmitter at the camera end and a receiver at the Sat Nav end.

Haven't decided which one yet. The BC 20 is a single camera and the BC30 is up to 4 cameras. The auto electrician has installed these and unlike cheap alternatives, these actually work well!

Excellent job there Pete! Very Happy It looks totally OEM, but I bet it's functionality is leaps and bounds ahead of the factory fitted nav system! Top work! Cool Paula

I have the popular Tom Tom Start 60 installed. I was surprised to see the cost of the Garmin!

My additional sat Nav requirements were:
- 7" Screen
- Switch between Vehicle only and then vehicle + Caravan (Means it shouldn't send you down unsuitable routes)
- Reversing camera facility - my new caravan has an end bathroom so the end of the caravan is solid and I want to able to see whats behind me when I reverse or overtake.
- and I was use to Garmin.
For these extra facilities I was prepared to pay more. My 5" Garmin was only about £150, whereas the 760 was about £260.

Looks lovely. One thing I haven't ascertained from any of these installs is how do you handle audio? A factory fitted unit would allow you to listen to music through the stereo and when the nav needed to give a direction the music would mute and the nav would speak, then music would come back on.

How integrated is the audio from the sat nav? Learned to drive in 2011.
Bought a Micra - great little car
"Upgraded" to Kia Sportage - hated it
Proper upgrade to FL2 TD4 GS 60 reg Facelift - tailgate paint issues, fuel gauge rewire, transfer box failure at 36k miles, clutch at 60k
Reconditioned diff at 70k ish
Sold at 84k and now on a DS. Terribly unreliable.
Sold DS for a 2021 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV. Fingers crossed....
Sold Outlander for a 2014 SD4 SE Tech because I’m mental

Ive pondered the audio issue too. I considered a 3G iPad mini - that could handle sat nav, radio, audio and much more, all fed through the aux in on the factory head unit. The audio would dim within the iPad that way.

Then Apple introduced Car Play so I'm thinking again!

Audio Issue:
Its not integrated like the factory one, but I can live with that. These Dezls have got a much more powerful speaker than the smaller Garmins. Afterall, these I believe were originally designed for trucks.

There is however, on the otherside of the camera input, a speaker symbol output. Dont know what it does as it hasn't bothered me. Perhaps it may mute the radio?

I would guess that would just be an audio out so you can feed the sat nav audio to your head unit aux in. Does the Garmin play MP3 files?

If the camera is mounted on the caravan can one do away with mirror extensions on the towcar? Probably not but worth an ask.
And where on the van does it mount?
