Problems with keys - won't lock or unlock

Dear All

Hope someone might have the answer to my key problems.

My main key stopped working properly, it wouldn't open or lock the doors, then opened the windows, which was a pain as I had to restart the car to put up the windows. Now my spare is doing the same.

It opens the passenger doors but not the drivers side, I have to climb in and open it from the inside, another pain !!! It locks the passenger doors but again not the drivers door.

Am I right in thinking the keys get charged when driving, if so I thought I'd be ok as I do a 300 mile round trip to Aberdeen once a week.

Do the keys have batteries inside, surely not ???

Mines is an 07 model.

Any thoughts advice etc most welcome as we're off on a driving holiday in a months time.

Cheers
Phil

I had a similar problem. I found that the windows were lowering on their own, often in the middle of the night when the car was parked and there was no chance that anyone was touching/pressing buttons on the fob.

Land Rover checked various things and in the end replaced one of the key fobs under warranty. It was fine for about 18 months then it did it again. I got the other original fob replaced and it seems to have been ok since.

I think when the fobs get to a certain age they don't hold a charge anymore.

Nigel

Thanks for this.

I'm half thinking it's possibly the actual door mechanism as the two passenger doors and boot open ok. My windows problem occurs if I press the key too much.

I'll see what the cost of a new fob will be.

Cheers
Phil

common enough for the door lock motors to fail - I have replaced three on mine.

If you car is setup for drivers door on single press and all doors on double press, then it makes sense that the drivers door will fail first. Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her
Replaced by Ewok what a mistake - now a happy Disco Sport owner

As above. Likely cause is the drivers door lock is Censored . Oh, and if you continue to push the unlock button, the windows will all open as they are supposed to. When they are all open, press and hold the close button and they will all close. Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto

Yes it does sound like more of a lock issue than what I experienced. Don't go rushing into key fob replacement as its not cheap, especially if it doesn't work for you.

Fob batteries, although soldered to the PCB, can be replaced, just google it.

If you don't feel up to the task yourself, there are people around who will do it for a fee.

Many thanks for all your replies.
