Would be interested to know what fuel consumption Australian owners of TD4 Auto are getting.

I get at best 6l/100km to a worst of 12l/100km on the beach.

If you get on the highway and select 6th gear with CommandShift the fuel economy drops away to 6-6.5l/100km.

The beauty of the TD4 engine is that it can climb most hills in 6th gear at 80-100km/hr so its pretty efficient.

I haven't done any towing with it as yet.

I know what you mean re rego - fuel consumption aside I just got the renewal in mail for Disco II V8 and did a comparison to TD4 rego costs. Thanks for the advice the re key issue - I had heard this in general discussion but if software fix solves it (along with a number of issues) thats good to know, and thanks for the advice re making sure software is updated by dealer. I think current stocks are a mix of remaining 07MY and new 08MY -(the latter is what I would be pushing for).

Mrs Liscal hasn't finally decided on colour yet - she likes Stornaway, although I have seen pics of the new Caspian Blue and thats also a starter...will probably come down to stock availability and choice in the end I suspect... Liscal

Is there a difference in the rego price of dielsel Vs petrol in QLD. In Victoria they don't discriminate they rip everyone off.

They don't charge different amounts for petrol or deisel but they do charge based on the number of cylinders.

So the TD4 is cheaper than the i6. If you unfortuant enough to buy a Td5 or other 5 cylinder engine you get screwed overal royally because they charge the full 6 cyl rego.

The TD4 is about $150 a year cheaper than my V6 Commodore was (if I remember correctly)

First tank I got down to 8.2 before a trip through the hills and mud, ended on 9.2.

Second tank was 9.9 around town.

This tank so far I am doin 9.2, mostly town with some highway.

Car has done under 3000k.

Not sure if the econmy will improve any as it runs in a bit more.

Go for any colour, you will love the car regardless!

Its interesting to note that you aussies use the metric L/100 km method of fuel economy. To us brits thats hard to fathom as we are used to miles/gallon.
I remember VW made a 3L/100k car but us brits never really took notice because its was all greek to us.

I've had my SE TD4 since September and I've done about 11,500 km.

I've had fuel consumption as low as 7.5L / 100km for country driving using the auto - 2 adults + 2 kids and limited luggage.

With city driving the fuel consumptions varies a lot depending on traffic but I would say averages 10L / 100km.

So far the only problem I have had is the window washers stopped working yesterday. Off to the dealer to get them fixed tomorrow.

It's the perfect car for me. I have a 45 minute daily commute each way in the city and like to get out to the country on the weekends with my family or to tow my boat to go fishing. It handles all of its duties very well.

The Brits other excuse for not recording fuel consumption metrically as you do in Aus, is that having finally switched over to selling fuel in litres, we still hang on to miles for our distances .... a brilliant UK compromise!
So it's tricky to manually calculate any fuel consumption in a recognised format (mpg or Ltr per 100Km).  Life is not a dress rehearsal!

If you look at my most economical day it was cool and wet so did not need the air conditioning. Is that close to British conditions? Also highway speeds are 100-115Kph. All figures in this post except the final average were obtained using BP Diesel.

They seem to be very good mpgs for a TD4 auto, particularly as they include towing and extensive air con use.

First cool wet day day rather like UK? ............. only if you drop temperature another 10 degrees C!  Life is not a dress rehearsal!
