LR2 in the Hurricane Zone

Not sure if many of you folks in the UK have heard about the hurricane that struck the US east coast a couple days ago.

Either way, thought I would comment on the performance of my LR2 in the storm. In a word, it was exemplary. I live on an island and was forced to evacuate, however my other relatives live close by on the mainland, and their areas were affected as well. On top of that, I am also a news editor/reporter and have to be out in the conditions for work. The LR2 allowed me to ford flooded areas and get in and out of areas covered in debris, as well as cross muddy terrain.

The LR2 sailed through a flooded, muddy area where a Nissan Xterra struggled minutes earlier.

I will have some photos when my Internet connection improves (no power, no Wifi, just using an aircard connected to a mobile network that is very clogged with traffic) but am in awe of this great machine we all own!

On a personal note, we have no idea if our house is still standing on the island, or if my 19-foot boat that was hauled out of the water prior to the storm's arrival is intact or if it floated away. We won't be allowed in for up to another week. But unlike some areas, there are no fires in mine from ruptured gas lines or anything like that.

But wanted to compliment the LR2 for is wonderful performance. I have started recently doing some off-roading for fun, but this car also means business!

Like me, I'm sure most people have been following hurricane Sandy, it has featured heavily on our news programmes.
It's times like that where you're glad you bought a vehicle that goes the extra mile, here's hoping your property survived the flooding Thumbs Up

Here in North Eastern Quebec we only had some winds and lot's of rain. Storms and hurricanes are at the end of their life when they get here.

Good luck with you home and stuffs. As long as the family is ok then it's all good. 1973 Land Rover Series 3 88''

Good luck with all of your personal stuff.

If you want somewhere safe for your boat in future, I don't mind volunteering to look after it by sailing it around the Whitsundays Smile

Truth be told, I almost did not! I waited until the last minute to evacuate, thinking the storm was going to be much weaker than it was. A storm like this has only been spoken about by (very) old timers. I waited until they announced they were closing the last bridge out. I didn't mind riding it out and seeing the affects of Mother Nature firsthand, but I needed an escape. When that window closed, I left.

We've had many neighborhoods destroyed by natural gas fires, storm surge effects and other issues. I hope mine was not one of them, but we will not know until the authorities allow us back over the bridge to the island. Even as a media representative they have not allowed me in, despite having an official state press placard on my deashboard. This is serious.

But this is a risk we all take. Everything can be replaced, and replaced with something better than before! It's the price we pay to live in a beautiful place, and it's a price I'll gladly pay for a wonderful life here. Wink CAR HISTORY

Thanks, northern neighbor!

The Canadian Maritimes are always an area of the world that have fascinated me. I've been to northeastern Quebec (near the Newfoundland border) in March and absolutely loved it. You live in a very beautiful part of the world! CAR HISTORY

Wondering how come the disco airbags went off, did it crash get thrown there with occupants driving Shocked

That boat looks a bit big to be towed by the silver car, especially without a trailer Whistle Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis
