That one wire connector (right one in picture) is 12V.
In the other one, with two wires, the black-yellow wire (or completely black), towards center, is continuous GND.
Verify them with a multimeter.

thx !
one last stupid question...

does the battery saver work on a time principle ?

I know that the interior lights switch off if i leave them on... is this because of a timer or does it detect the power drainage of a 5W light bulb ?

I wanted to make sure that the mirror triggered the battery saver.
is the fuse too big ? should i put another in-line fuse ?

thanks and sorry for the stupid questions Smile

The battery saver, from what I know, works on a time principle and not on power drain monitoring.
Leave the fuse as it is, it's OK, and put the mirror without any other fuse.

Don't...
Measure the mirror's current consumption and you'll see that it's very small.
How much current could a charged gel draw?... Measure it and you'll see.
Don't worry, the relay will switch off eventually.

Thumbs Up
thanks for your support...

i read similar units (aftermarket units with compass) draw 450 mA
so theoretically it should be ok...

Alex,

I tested the current draw using a transformer and a meter

V = 12,15
A = 0,02 (normal)
A = 0,3 (shining torch on front sensor - fully dimmed)

basically 0,25 W (normal)
and 3,6 W (under full load)

do you think this will drain my battery on the long run, by keeping on for 40 mins each time ?

thx in advance

I don't think so, because when you park and lock the car you won't have a light projector behind your car to make your mirror to fully dim and draw the max current, isn't it? Very Happy
For sure it will consume a much less current than that. Measure the current draw in plain daylight inside the car with the mirror in position and you'll see that the current draw is minimal.
Go ahead, install it and enjoy it! You've gone way to far in order to back-up now... Laughing Thumbs Up

not helpful really, but fitting privacy glass/film avoids the need for an auto mirror. you could say avoiding driving at night does too Wink At work

Or better, install electrochromic film directly on windows...

done installed it...

took the gnd and + from the inside light.

so far so good... it takes 30 mins for the battery saver to kick in.

so it uses 0,1 A - 0,2 for 30 mins...

lets see how it goes

thx for all the help !
