Terrain Response System/HDC Faulty

Last week the display flashed up that there was an HDC fault but it went away.

Yesterday the amber warning triangle and exclamation mark with the anti-clockwise circular arrow warning light came on permanently. I also have the following messages:
"HDC Fault - System not available"
"Transmission Fault"
"Special Programs off"

There is no light on the terrain respnse system and when I turn the knob it displays "Terrain response system faulty".

This morning it started fine and continued to display all as above. I also noticed that the passenger airbag light took longer than normal to go out.

It drives perfectly but I am worried I have a serious and costly problem. Having scanned previous posts, could it just be low voltage from the battery? - Ever the optimist! (battery is one year old so should be OK) I have a 600 mile round trip on Saturday and not sure I should use the FL2 as Mrs Freedieselauto does not now like warning lights despite being reassured by the light in her car, which she thought was to show it was working!! (Mars and Venus comes to mind)

Any advice would be appreciated as I will be unable to get to the dealer before I need to drive 600+ miles. - 2007(57) XS Auto, Rimini Red, Alpaca Leather.

You have a problem on the DSC (and related) systems.
Could be a sensor, for example and wheel speed (ABS) sensor.
All system's functioning (Traction Control, ABS, DSC, etc) are based on individual wheel's speed input.
Only by reading the fault codes can be put a trustworthy diagnostic.

If what you have said is correct then you will have lost cruise control and stability control on cornering too.
It very much sounds like the pressure switch in the ABS modual has failed, the car does a self test every time on start up and if it gets back the wrong values it goes into limp mode. you will stil be able to drive the car.
Now for the bad news are you sitting down??? the ABS modual is arround the £600 mark with a further £300 to £400 to fit as there are no servicable parts.
same thing hapened to me.

Oldgeezer - Sorry I missed your visit to EG with your specialist equipment and vehicle electrics knowledge.

Thanks also to Alex and Superspark. I will check the cruise control tomorrow. I just hope Alex's example of just an ABS sensor is nearer the mark than the ABS module at £1,000 all in!

I will get it to the dealer in a couple of weeks. It will really bug me in the meantime. - 2007(57) XS Auto, Rimini Red, Alpaca Leather.

I had the same thing happen while stopping and starting in an M25 blockage (stopped so long several times, turned off engine and got these messages on restart). Light/message stayed on a while after a reluctant firing up so went to Ripon LR for plug into get fault codes. Checked all the comms and no fault found but as there was a software update available, they did that FOC as part of extended 4th year LR warranty that I bought.

Been running 4 months since then without any problems. Don't really know what the problem was but I conclude that it's fixed Gone... 2013 XS TD4 Manual Firenze Red

This is the most hilarious explanation they could give... Laughing Laughing Laughing
Just like with the MS Windows when you have a problem. The response to any problem: restart it. Laughing

Mmmm Surprised , tried that several times since it happened without any change. Going to the stealer this morning for them to put it on their diagnostic equipment, so I should know after shelling £49 +VAT ! Will update when I know more. - 2007(57) XS Auto, Rimini Red, Alpaca Leather.

Turning car off, locking it and the unlocking and restarting is a fairly well known first try at fixing issues. When I had a reduced engine performance message due to frozen diesel switching off and on allowed the vehcile to come out of reduced engine performance mode albeit temporarily until it sucked in more frozen diesel. After the third cycle of stopping and restarting it the engine then ran normally although the reduced engine performance message did not clear until i left the car switched off for over 10 minutes.

An early morning visit to Harwoods in Edenbridge has, at a cost of £114 Crying or Very sad , narrowed it down to the lack of a signal from the Rear Differential Control Module (RDCM). The fuse had blown, which they replaced and it blew again. They think the cable must be shorting so recommend replacing the cable at 2 hours + labour. They were unable to check if the RDCM is functioning. They could not tell me which fuse!! P Censored S poor service. Anybody know which fuse ?

Originally quoted £49 +VAT - then came to say further fault diagnosis needed. Plus they do not appear to have cleared my audio cut out problem as requested or checked whether I have the right replacement battery as requested:evil: Evil or Very Mad

I doubt I will return as they just P Censored D me about and I hate being P Censored D about and charged for the privilege.
Well - at the weekend will be testing their theory with another cable before replacing it.

I feel much better now having had a rant. - 2007(57) XS Auto, Rimini Red, Alpaca Leather.

Try Guava in Guildford - I've heard only good reports about them.

Glad to hear its not just me that receives a poor service from L/Rover dealers then !
Incompetent or what !

The laugh is they charge top prices but never seem to have any quality techs who really know what they are talking about !

Yes, they remind me of that TV sketch with David Walliams dressed as a dreary woman saying "the computer says no" to any question and then being slapped round the face with £100+ billfor the privilege. You can't even stand next to the techies to see what they are up to. They put you in a posh waiting area next to the showroom with a free (aka £100+) coffee machine. Well somebody has to pay for the Christmas party!

I am using an independent next time and buy them a coffee/pint and save myself a packet. - 2007(57) XS Auto, Rimini Red, Alpaca Leather.
