Ride Comfort 17ins v 18 or 19ins Wheels

My wife is not a particularly good passenger and finds that the Freelander with 17 inch wheels tends to rock a bit. Well that's her excuse for having to drive. Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes

Generally the nearest the car comes to off roading is if a caravan site doesn't have tarmac roads so my question is would fitting 18 or 19 inch wheels make much difference to the general ride comfort in normal use and let me drive my car again. Question

England

Mine was standard with 19" but I use 17" for winter, I really notice the body roll with the 17", a lot less roll with the 19" but I haven't really noticed any difference with pot holes and such, using a lower profile.

United Kingdom 2010 Freelander 2 TD4 HSE Auto Biscay Blue

I've had two HSE's with 18" wheels. Ride comfort is good and off road ability excellent - drove one with 18" and standard tyres at LR Experience. 2010 HSE TD4 auto, Biscay Blue, Almond Leather, facelift front and rear, detachable towbar, front & rear mudflaps, bib spoilers, clear high level brake light, smooth rear wiper, colour coded door handles.

Don't really notice that much difference between mine with 17 inch wheels and the LRE one with 18 inch on road.

United Kingdom 2009 Freelander 2 TD4 GS Auto Zermatt Silver

Also depends on the 17" tyres you have fitted and how flexible the sidewalls are, for example an all terrain may have a stiffer sidewall than the standard tyres sidewall, and a 112 Light truck tyre may stiffer still than a 104 or 108 SUV tyre etc. In general the bigger wheel /lower side wall has less tyre movement but the trade off is ride comfort however The freelander in no low slung sports saloon so you probably won't notice that. but to be honest as stated above I also could tell no difference between our car on 17" Scorpion A/T light truck tyres and the LRE car I drove on 18" Scorpion Zeros, and that is I drove our car to and from the LRE so the comparison was back to back 2009 GS Auto Zermatt Silver - Sold June 21 after 10 years of ownership

Thanks for all the replies guys, Current tyres are OEM Goodyear Wranglers which I would imagine have a fairly rigid sidewall compared with some other makes.

Guess I'll just have to carry on letting my wife drive, which is okay if I wan't to have the odd glass of wine or pint.
