2011 Freelander 2 SD4 XS Auto Stornoway Grey

I had a FFRR TDV8 Vogue SE which I purchased in 2009 at 2 years old. It was a great car, very comfortable and eat motorway miles without causing significant fatigue. However the majority of my driving is on Surrey lanes and A roads where it was not so well suited due to its size and thirst (22nmpg)

My wife bought a Freelander XS SD4 last late 2010 soon after the launch. It was smaller than the FFRR yet faster, more economical and much easier navigating the lanes. I grew to like it very much, so much so she was concerned I was taking the keys to it too frequently! I obtain 32 to 34 mpg commuting to work.

I decided to change the Vogue back in the summer as it was getting on in age and miles. I ended up ordering an Evoque to get a blend of luxury and economy in a smaller package. I got it a week ago and do not regret the move at all. No it does not have the same presence on the road, it conveys a very different image. Yet it turns heads, because it a design master piece.

The Evoque is a a complete departure for Land Rover, it is the most sporting 4 wheel drive I have driven. The Adaptive Dynamics suspension provides a comfortable ride with great handling and composure on all surfaces. It has a wealth of features not available in a Freelander (yet) and is more composed at speed. It may not be the best Land Rover off road but it out classes all the competition in that area. I have no regrets selling the Vogue and it makes a great stable mate to the Freelander. 2013 Discovery HSE Luxury Corris Grey

Thanks Landynut. Nice to hear from someone who has owned a larger one and also the freelander Thumbs Up

It's just the look of it that i can't get used to. I like it from the ground up to the top of the doors and then no.
I keep having a look on the evoque forum and on the landy site but i cant make myself like them.

Glad you are enjoying it Very Happy

What does your wife think of it? 59 TD4e XS in galway green

My wife thought I was mad getting rid of the Vogue due to its size, ease of driving and comfort Rolling Eyes .She felt very safe high up as a passenger, the Evoque being smaller and lower does not convey the same level of security. However she does find the Evoque quiet, comfortable and very nice to drive. "it is well planted on the road" in her own words. It is a similar driving experience to a sporty Mercedes (we have had an AMG and CLK 500).

She does not like the small boot and is concerned when we go away there will be in sufficient luggage space (we coped with the CLK for four years!) My view is we only go away a few times so we will make do with squashy bags and fewer items as we did before.

I think she will remain very content with the Freelander which in SD4 form has more than adequate performance, higher driving position and more space. So we have the best of both worlds! Smile 2013 Discovery HSE Luxury Corris Grey

Theres a nice one at Farnells in leeds, Brown carpets cream leather with brown leather dash, steering wheel etc and i was sat playing for a while whilst waiting for them to finish my car, and i was quite comfy in there, but for the same money i could get the D4/RRS HSE, and worry about mpg Laughing

Followed a white one yesterday and despite looking over one at a LR Experience day I did not realise how terrible it looked at the rear.

I liked what I thought I saw , when it was parked and really believe it is a nice ( but overpricerd ) vehicle BUT that rear end is a definate no no for me Sad

Here are some pictures of our Freelander and Evoque next to each other. It shows how small the Evoque is in comparison.

United Kingdom 2009 Freelander 2 TD4 GS Auto Zermatt Silver

It is surprising to see the size difference when they are side by side on the road. I went to ( the laughingly named) John Lennon International Airport in Speke very early on Monday Morning to fly out for work and saw both on trade plates leaving the slip road from the factory and taking a right at the airport junction. Must admit both looked impressive in their own way the Freel was silver and the Evoque red metallic, very nice on a quiet road in the dark shining under the street lights 2009 GS Auto Zermatt Silver - Sold June 21 after 10 years of ownership

Really surprising how it has caused the FL2 to age about 20 years when sitting next to the babyRR. I'm sure FL3 will have the new look too
