Hi all
i have a 07 plate gs manual with 42k on the clock which has a slipping clutch ,i am dreading the cost of fixing it so was wondering if there is a ball park figure i would expect to pay,don't think i'll be going to my local dealer as i don't want to sell my house…..
Looking at going to a franchise dealer or local larry, i live in the derby area so know a few places to go but as i say need a figure to go in with.

Not sure if this is much help to you but I just had the clutch replaced on my 2002 FL1 manual.
They have dual mass flywheels which are a small fortune and nearly always fall apart during the dismantling process. In my case the bill came to over £800 ..... and then I sold it  Cheers,

It varies from dealer to dealer but expect to pay between £1000 to £1300. The best bet would be to go to a local garage with a good name and you should be able to get about £300 to £400 off if your lucky as most indipendants dont charge as much for labour as LR do, all the best

So if the clutch is being replaced is it always necessary to change dual mass flywheel as well?

Normally the clutch is fine. It's the DMF which causes the clutch to slip.
And while it's apart Sir you may as well ......... ad nauseam while we prise open your wallet and get you to pay for something which is a basic design fault

Unless your vehicle is under warranty. Never mind, we'll prise open your wallet in another 25k approx miles when it slips again. Another member of the failed FL2 clutch/DMF club, twice.

Its a risk if you dont replace the duel mass flywheel as its a big expensive job stripping down to start with. There is also another things to consider.
That would be the the release bearing which is not that expensive but also the clutch slave cylinder which is located in the bell housing. This part is more more money which ups the bill too.
Keeping in mind if any of these other parts fail its a day to strip down and rebuild which at LR garage costs is about £500.
Taking in to account the amount of duel mass flywheels that fail its something to strongly consider.

My clutch started slipping at 54,000 on '08 plate. Replaced by Taggarts in Glasgow for £800.
Symptoms of clutch slip were driving at 60+ on motorway after about an hour, in 6th gear, full throttle to overtake, revs rise but speed didn't. It only slipped when hot - it would actually drag the rear wheels with hand break on ( according to mechanic .... Sorry, technician) - they reckoned the DMF was OK.
While they were at it, they changed slave cylinder at no cost.
They also didn't bleed the system correctly which meant a return journey visit of 50 miles to get bled properly the next day ... One day, they'll actually do a job properly and I won't have to finish it myself - things like trim not refitted correctly, screws missing, cable loom fasteners not refitted etc. really annoy me ..... 2008 Freelander2 GS TD4
New steering pump and rack fitted 10000 miles (warranty)
Driver's seat started 'dropping' 30000 miles
Rear parking sensors giving continuous tone when raining heavy 35000 miles
Rear parking brake siezed 40000 ... new rear disks and pads (warranty)
Clutch slipping 54,000 ... new clutch ... £800 ! ... (not warranty)
Rear diff bearings replaced at 60,000 and 85,000 (warranty)
New DMF and clutch, rear diff (uprated nose bearing), front and rear disks at 115,000

clutch went on a mates 57 plate - cost to replace = £1,100

i'm on a 57 plate

Mine starred slipping today, as described earlier, when accelerating hard in 5th or 6th.
Got it booked in stratstones in Newport, £793 all in.

Just had the thing serviced an all, probably spent 2 grand this month.
4 new wrangler boots. Service, mot, tax and now this.

Still love the old girl though.  Don't put petrol in a diesel. They don't run well.

are you allowed to recommend any places for work to be done and give out phone numbers on this forum, as a guy lives close to derby is a lot cheaper than main dealers.He has always done the work on my last 3 disco,s and done a superb job each time and will only do what is needed (not tell you it needs this and that )
