Central locking not working

Car opened just fine this morning by 'pliping', but since then the remote lock, remote boot open won't work.

The car will start just fine. I've opened and closed all of the doors and boot. Still, the remote won't work.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Fuse, receiver, associated electronics...

The wife just went out to try again.

The FL is now locked and won't unlock. Doh.

Intermittant...is it another boot lock microswitch problem?

The radio receiver is fed from a 5 amp fuse (FS21) in the passenger side fuse compartment, might be worth a check. Thumbs Up

Remote battery charge? Have you tried your other remote?

Just tried BOTH of the remotes and everything works. Can't be moisture because it has been raining for a couple of hours.

It's too cold wet and windy to fiddle around with the boot lock right now. Or the fuse (thanks for that suggestion). Perhaps it's cold weather related. I shall drive the FL tomorrow and give it a 60mile round trip to work to warm it up.

It will not be cold related. Nowhere near cold enough. Another member of the failed FL2 clutch/DMF club, twice.

Recently had an intermittent problem with one of the remotes. Seemed like low battery in that it only worked when very close to the driver's window, then wouldn't open at all - luckily wife was present with her fob. Booked in at dealer, but two days later the fob was working perfectly without having been docked in the meantime.

Anyway, upshot was a "while you wait" trip to the dealer resulted in "faulty fob" diagnosis and a new replacement covered by the extended warranty Smile. Usual great service from Lancaster Land Rover in Reading. Thumbs Up

All I can add here is that the fobs have a rechargeable battery in them which is onj charge everytime the fob is inserted into the dock.

Rechargeable batteries are measured in the number of recharges.

So it necessary follows that the battery will eventually need to be replaced whenthey fail to recharge anymore.

There are threads on doing this - and pics in my gallery of the fob inside. 2002 Honda VFR800

Outside influences can sometimes cause a problem (and I dont mean Aliens!)

Other local infrared signals or radiowaves can effectively 'block' your fobs signal. It happened once to me when once before when trying to lock my FL2, had to stand right upto it to get it to lock. On my return tried to unlock from 5 metres away and nothing, kept trying and only unlocked when i was about an inch from it! Got home and everything was back to normal.

Sure I read I here sometime ago that someones internet wireless router caused problem with the fob as well?

Just to add weight to Shilen's post, in the work vehicle there is an area around Farnborough where the remote fails to lock or unlock, also on the works vehicle I have an accessory fitted to it that can be used by a remote, should I try to lock or unlock the vehicle it overrides the remote for the accessory, it may be someone or something nearby that is walking over your remote.

My wireless router was problematic for the neighbours Range Rover, he has sinced changed a control module that was not going to sleep when my wifi was on and flattening the battery. It wasn't just mine, if he was in range of a wifi signal the control module was continually trying to talk to it.

There have been reports of some areas in the UK were cars simply will not lock or unlock, all these devices, remote fobs, wifi, AV senders and god knows (other diety's are available) what else all use similiar frequencies.

Drive away and try again to see if it works Thumbs Up

I worked at a Ford Main Dealership and we were always getting people coming into the workshop saying their car was parked outside and wouldn't work. We knew what the issue was and just told them to push the car 20 yards down the road and try again. Worked every time.....some places are like that and just mess with the signal. Range Rovers seemed to be particularly sensitive to this problem. John

Update:

After three days the gremlins went away.

I did do some more investigation. My ALFA had the same problem. I didn't notice at first as I park the ALFA in the garage. I also had an external data sender for my weatherstation - that stopped sending too although the batteries died at the same time so that masked it for a bit.

Extra terrestrial influence, or something...

Thanks for the advice, though.

It seems to be relatively easy to jam door locks - see today's Standard http://www.thisislondon.co.uk/standard/art...hopping.do - so not surprising that it can happen by accident if the right sort of signal is present.
