yes, the wishbone can be pulled low enough to get the joint in/out.
I've aready replaced my wishbones doing this way and with the help of my dad and a 1 meter crowbar.

for peace of mind about swirl, just swap your manifold with an Evoque one.
I done this on mine FL2 after fond a cheap Evoque manifold on Ibay for a fistful of £  |

from my experiences, I never seen a DTCs or Engine lights caused by an EGR blank( without hole, 100% blank): even on newer model ( MY12/MY13) or also on the 2.2 SD4 Evoque.
