Hi,

My car (HSE TD4, manual, Jan. 2007 registered) shows the warning "Transmission failed, traction reduced" and 3 weeks ago, when I got it to the dealer for the annual service they told me that there is a problem with the turbo charger and the transmission is affected. As a result, the performance of the car is reduced (although I have not observed anything)!
I asked them if it is important to replace/ repair it now and they told me it is not necessary because it won't let you in the middle of a journey nor the problem will increase by the daily usage.
The estimated costs for repairing is EUR 1.400 (incl. VAT, labour hours etc) for the whole kit but the problem can be solved if they find a used part of that kit from other vehicle in which case it will cost less.

Has anyone faced a similar problem?

Is this mainly a sensor or a rear differential problem? I mean that if I change the sensor, the problem will just be hidden for a while and then show up again? Or is it better to change the Haldex kit to fix the problem from its roots?

From what I understand, sometimes it is just a faulty sensor switch, in my case it was a new pump kit fitting, and in some it is actually the Haldex itself......Always start with the cheapest!!

Indeed, as wizking said.
And the differential and Haldex system, even if they (seems to) share the same housing, they are in fact two different systems.
The differential is a pure mechanical system.
Haldex, on the other hand, has both mechanical and electrical parts.
