My new FL2 XS with highlevel boot extention fitted.

The silver looked good on the silver discovery but not so good against the green. Looking at the pictures I might move the box back a bit more as well.

I always refer to those things as 'coffins' on the roof. Sorry, but yuck! Shocked

Don't disagree I always disliked them as well but with a couple of under 5's filling the back seats and all the junk and plastic that seems to be required by them, it was even needed on the D3 a few times and with smaller boot on the FL2 its a necessity. A friend of mine actually had the task of doing the forensics on a body that had been put in one for a few months, which really put him off of a well known brand of boxes altogether, He still wont buy one just borrows mine occasionally.

Think I'd have gone for the D3/4, there isn't much room in the FL2 when you have the girlfriend in the front and the three kids in the back. I didf try it with two child seats and it was just possible, but no more.

Unfortunately the two in the back crimps the finances as well and the new D4's are just too expensive to run as well as buy. so a £80 roofbox for the 7 or 8 times a year when i need the space, made much better sense than the extra £40 pounds a tank fill that the D3/4 would have cost. But would have had a D4 if money had been no object as the D3 was just about the best car I have ever had.

Downsized, what cross bars do you use? The cross braces (for bike carrier etc) are too wide I think for my black Halfords body carrier.....Dunroof you might wish to reconsider your use of words,.......or is it just my dirty mind! Upgraded to an ex demo, 7 mth old, Rimini Red/Ebony Napoli Auto HSE on 28th Jan 2011, added roof rails, mudflaps and side strips.

They are indeed land rover cross bars. They are too wide for U bolts but I have the bolts that fix in the tracks, got those from the roof box company when I ordered the box. 5 minutes to fit and 5 mins to put box on.

Downsized, many thanks, I have looked at the LR Roof Box fitting instructions and see that the plastic strip on the cross brace removes to reval a channel (learn something new everyday!) and that a LR part fits the channel which appears to allow varying size u type fittings to be used. Then the instructions get less helpful....The illustrations still seem to suggest that the U fittings go under the cross brace and not just through the fitting. Also complicated by the LR box having specialist internal fittings very different to my basic u bolt a la Halfords. Can you please advise further? Many thanks, JT Upgraded to an ex demo, 7 mth old, Rimini Red/Ebony Napoli Auto HSE on 28th Jan 2011, added roof rails, mudflaps and side strips.

I measured the the distance between the bolt holes then took the rubber strips out and drilled through the strip at the required distance apart . The holes are almost invisible when they don't have the bolts in them. The bolts (aerobar T track adapters £10) have a large square head that just fits in the groove, put the screws through the hole in the rubber and slide the whole lot back into the bars. My box was from the roofbox company who were very helpful as wasn't really sure what I needed.

edit. my bars don't whistle
