Driveway Ideas

My new house has a driveway that is wide enough to fit about 3 cars on it and is just off the pavement (as you be able to see.)

My plan is to keep the garage located were it is, and remove fences A & B and extend the drive way the full width of the garden down the side of the garage, and re-erect the fence in line with the current one on the right, giving me

1) parking area for my cars away from the pavement
2) Have a detailing bay with drainage when needed
3) an area to park my caravan for loading and washing etc

I would also like to put a gate across the whole driveway, poss electric, were the drive meets the pavement, for security, the only type i can think of is a straight one that would emerge from the conifers and slide all the way across.

But what are these gates like Question , as i presume stones in the gutter/sliding rail will cause havoc Question

is there any other type of gates you can think of, as a standard swing gate would have to be opened in the road, maybe a gate that can bend like a shutter door Confused

Ideas, thoughts please, so i can start saving Laughing my garage doesn't store cars its for boxes Whistle

right i have a idea, (amazing what you think of when Big brothers on) and a Becks in hand

In front of garage, a swing gate, for access and can be opened when visitors come

with the extended drive way which will hopefully have enough room for 2 cars behind each other, matching sliding gate, but this makes access with the caravan tighter due to the center post Confused

npinks,it all depends on how much you want to pay, there are electric gates that power out but do not touch the ground. They are solid and need the same width as your drive to recess into which overcomes the stones in the guides problem.
These as many other electric gates can be remotely operated via a hand controll or a transmitter fitted in your car

Washing or detailing what ever you call it Rolling Eyes

It will be connected up to the correct drain, and have no more pollutants than you or I washing on a driveway, which it basically will be just that a driveway, with a pressure washer perminatley connected to a water supply and maybe a flood light for the darker nights Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

How about extending or re-building the garage. It adds value to your property, whereas fancy gates are unlikely to add much.

My re-built big garage now houses the washing machines etc, a small workshop, the caravan and the Freelander. All safely under lock and key.

Mr burglar doesn't know whether I am at home or away as the caravan is not normally be seen.

I originally did think of building a larger garage but it would cost a fair bit to do so looking at gates and extending the drive down the side first.

Then there is all the planning permission etc and I want to try and gate off the driveway as when we are loading the caravan up the youngster can be in the driveway without the risk of running on to the road

I might go brick built garage with a pitched roof in the years to follow, just like a possible extension to the house itself Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis
