Under the hood the major difference (between V6 LR2 and V6 AWD XC60) is the label on the engine cover. [/quote]

LR2 is NOT A V6!

As you can see, I’m a LR man. Recently I bought my Volvo XC70 and believe me, it is a great car and you will surprise if you drive it “off road”. It has the Haldex 3 like our FL2s and 21 cm clearance. It is brilliant affronting mud, sand and snow!!! So, if you don’t have plans to make a real off road, the XC60 could be great!!! Thumbs Up
but... LR is the deal!!!!! Bow down Yuri

My FL2 has Haldex 4.
All FL2's from 2009MY have the forth generation of Haldex controller.
So once again the Tata's LR is one step ahead of Geely's Volvo...

...thanks for all the feedback.......... Thumbs Up

It's frightening that there are so many shared parts. You are not quite sure what you are buying.

If (?) my brother gets one, it will only be the AWD D5 model - so it should have at least some "off-road" capabilities Question

And fully agree that the 2WD version will not be much use.

Australia 2009 Freelander 2 i6 HSE Auto Santorini Black

I own an i6 and have driven my dad's XC60 diesel plenty of times to be able to give a solid comparison.

1. The ride. The XC60 sits much lower than the FL2 so there is less body roll in corners. The XC60 drives more like a car, doesn't feel much like a 4WD.

2. The interior of the XC60 is of higher quality and more luxurious. Though FL2 is much simplier and easy to use. The seat hight adjustment are on both ends of the scale. The lowest setting on FL2 is like the higest setting on the XC60. The Volvo has auto tailgate. Looks cool and practical but if you're parked too close the wall behind, hold your breath.

3. Off-road. I haven't driven the XC60 off road but it has much less clearance, approach and exit angles. And of course no Terran response.

4. Engines. The first diesel (136kW) used in XC60 is quite capable but noisy. Though a revised engine was released late last year (151kW) which is suppose to be more quieter and smoother. The petrol sixes are from Volvo, though LR tuned it to better suit off roading. The Volvo has the turbo six option.

At the end of the day, both cars are very different. It's what you're looking for in a SUV. If you want something that is more stylish and drives more like a car, it'd be the Volvo. It you want to do a lot of off-roading, need a car that can tackle all sort of driving conditions, a car that people won't assume you are a bad driver, a car that is cheaper and looks better, then the FL2 would be perfect.

The FL2 is really in a class of it's own. No current car out there has got the blend of luxury and capability as a FL2, for its price.
