Can anyone help. Have just bought my first Land Rover, a 56 plate freelander 2 se td4 manual. At speeds above about 50 mph I get an annoying whistle. Sounds like it could be coming from the sunroof. I have checked to make sure it is fully closed and that the windows are too. Any ideas anyone? Help please!!

Any roof rails fitted? Anyhoo off oot on me mobike.....

No roof rails fitted. The only additions are front and rear lamp guards but I don't think they're causing the issue.

are the black plastic strips that run along each side fully secure, they caused wind noise

Is the sunroof fully closing, i had a whistle once due to it not been fully closed, moved a fraction when i pressed the close button and the whistle stopped

I also had wind noise, as the front section was higher than the rear section which must have caused some air disturbance/noise

all on my first FL2

doors sealing snug? all windows fully closed etc?

I know you have ruled out the light covers but a fraction of a gap could whistle, maybe some electrical tape were they meet the car etc to cover any possible gaps Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

Been out today with the Wife driving so as to get a better listen to the aereas I think the noise is coming from. Strangely the most noise is coming from the pillar where the passengers seatbelt is located. I have had a listen and I think the noise originates from the sunroof,as I can definately hear a whistle from there. It then must be travelling down the pillar. As you mentioned npinks, the front part of the sunroof looks to sit slightly higher than the back section. Not sure if it can be adjusted to sit level. Did you get this rectified by the dealer? I have an approved warranty,hopefully this should be covered as I'm sure the car shouldn't suffer from this much wind noise!

My dealer at the time said they had adjusted it but it looked the same to me

It can be a window leaking seal, or a window not raising to it's full height.

Thanks npinks. Much appreciated. Always nice to have a clean car,even if your not popular with your other half! Will get in touch with my local dealer tomorrow and get things checked out. At least i am armed with some information in case they try to fob me off with some excuse/story.

Hopefully will get things sorted soon as the noise is driving the wife mad, and me too! Shame, as it's a cracking car apart from the annoying whistle. Unfortunately only noticed it after getting the car home and using it for the last week.

I like the classic caravan next to your car which I think you said was your neighbours in a previous post about Triumph 2.5 PI cars.I cannot remember the make but a pal of mine had beautiful two berth one with doors on both sides which meant that he could use two awnings which proved very useful when is wife's sister caravanned with them as she used the second awning for sleeping.

I got told by the dealer that the front section of the sunroof (at the rear) is supposed to be marginally higher than the start of the rear section of glass in order to prevent just the noise that scruffydog is describing It measures about 2mm....

Been to my dealers , Morrisons in Stirling. Very helpful and had a quick look at the car. Agreed that it was an unacceptable whistling noise but couldn't locate the source at that point. Have booked the car in for a day so they can track down the issue. However, this isn't until after I have a trip down to Sheffield. Could be a long journey!! My wife isn't looking forward to listening to that annoying whistle for 5 hours there and back. Better get the music sorted for the journeys!
I looked at the door seal today,front passenger, and there seemed to be a little section that wasn't sitting against the car body.Applied a little bit glue to stick it back. Now it appears that the whistle has been vastly reduced, so looks like it is a door seal issue or door alignment. Will pass on my findings do the dealer.
