Servicing

Hi guys,

As a soon to be FL2 owner, I have a few quick questions around servicing.

Am I right in thinking that every 15k miles or 12 months (whichever is soonest), the FL2 will need a service (Service B ?).

I'm assuming the Interim service ("a") if for people who do silly amounts of miles each year (i.e they could get 2 "A" services per year (15k & 30k miles), then get a "B" service after the 12 months ?).

How would not getting a service for over 20k miles affect the car ?

Is there anyway to trace Service History by number plate (obviously you can trace by contacting the dealer in question if the book has a stamp - but are the dealers linked in anyway to check for lost/missing service history ?).

Apologies for the questions, but I've never dealt with this situation before (I'm anal about servicing & get it done rigidly on my current car !!).

Thanks

Chris

I think that it is just every 15K miles or at least once a year, not both. Hi Darling, I'll be home in 10 mins. If I'm not back, please read this message again...

Sorry mate, i meant under "normal circumstances", servicing should be done every 15k or 12 months - which ever occurs soonest - just checking this was correct ?

The other blarb was just around interim servicing (for people who do a LOT of miles per year).

15K or 12 months, whichever comes first.

Difference between A & B services is what is actually done.

Someone on here had a PDF copy of the service shedule in their gallery.....forgotten who it was now Embarassed

I think the LR database is networked between dealers, as I had recall work done at one dealer, then a service at another dealer but they knew by my registration that I had the recall done already. Don't know if service history is the same thing but you can always call a LR dealer up to check. Phil

Hi Chris - I agree totally with Dave, 12 months or 15k whichever is the soonest. An 'A' service could be classed by other manufacturers as a 'minor' (£250 +/-) with a 'B' being a major (£350 +/-) so maybe an A is an oil change plus a sniff around and a B an oil change plus a sniff around + top up your windscreen bottle Laughing

5k over the 'service due 15k' = Zero warranty comeback - why do that? well I suppose it's obvious it's to save money but is it worth it....no.

If your spending a lot of money on a car £15k/£20k more and you see one without a service history book or the dealer suggests it's been lost and it looks cheap for the money, OK maybe do a bit of digging but i'd walk away. I think most dealerships just take the reg number for the records but I guess that could be if they are numerous dealerships like Farnells or Stratstones.

If your keen (as you say) on regular up to date servicing then while it's in warranty my personal opinion is to use a dealer - But you don't have to...it's just my opinion.

I've found the car I want though & have my heart set on it.....

It's out of warranty now (just), so no issues there, but the only stamp in the book is at 26k miles (2 years after purchase).

I'm trying to find if it has any prior history, but the dealer I spoke to (who serviced it last), only has their info & not any other information to suggest it has/hasnt been done before.

They informed me that their systems are not linked like Mercedes etc.

Anyone any ideas on the best way forward ?

How would I find out the (original) supplying dealer ?

Thanks chaps

Ok now see your problem.

Page 4 of the service record gives the 'selling dealers stamp info' surely there's something there? won't the dealer show you the book so that you can start your investigation?

If it's out of warranty and only has one service, if the price is right buy it, then gut a major service done. then all will be well. Freelander 2 HSE Lux 2013MY - Barolo Black with Ivory Leather. Alpine DVD - Privacy -Evoque 20" Dynamic Wheels and more to come.........

I've just bought a Freelander 2 XS 2007 from the CAR PEOPLE in Sheffield (great deal), spoke to my local dealer Farnell about a new key (car had only 1) and by giving them the chassis no they knew all about it from services to recalls! They then organised a battery recall for me. The car was bought from Rocar which is a different dealer chain, they knew all this before i had the service book, but i had a copy of the experian/hpi check to give them the detais. hope this helps Thumbs Up
