Freelander 2 Buzzing Dashboard Fault

Help. My Freelander 2 has a buzzing sound coming from the dashboard (underneath the key slot). It lasts for about 3 days solid, then stops for a week or too and then starts again. Every time i book it in with LR it stops. They suggested filming it as evidence of the problem.

This is the link to the movie on YouTube.

The buzzing starts as soon as you open any of the doors. Close the doors and it stops after about 60 seconds. Open the door again it starts. It continues to buzz whenever the engine is running. Stop the engine and the buzzing stops, until you start the engine again or open the doors to get out.

It's not linked to anything in particular. I've pushed every button, turned on the interior lights, the radio, the sat nav, the reversing beeper. Everything on the car works except for the buzzing.

Any ideas?
Thanks.[/url]

Hi - not sure what model your FL2 is but adjacent to the key fob point is the small grill in the dash that is the air capture point for the Climate Control. Behind this point there is a fan of some sort - could this be noisy. Not sure when its operative but I would imagine it's isolated when Climate/Air con switched completely off.

Anything to do with whatever it is that sucks in the key? It sounds like some kind of electric motor.

at least you have the video to show the dealer / LR

Had a look, it's really annoying noise isn't it. I dont think it's anything desperate, perhaps a loose earth or something to do with the ignition button. I had problems in that area, car wouldn't start and it was traced to the button, but it took LR technical 10 days in the garage to work it out, hence I am a bit paranoid about the start button.

After watching your video, it sounds like something rubbing the fan blades as they rotate. Don't put petrol in a diesel. They don't run well.

It's the small fan motor of the interior temperature sensor.
The motor/fan is an integral unit with the interior temperature sensor.
So, it needs to be changed as an unit.
