Just wondering if anyone has had a timing belt failure and can answer the following questions:-

Age of car (belt) when failed.
Mileage of car (belt) when failed.
If it was original belt or a replacement.
The consequence of the failure and cost to fix.

And if you’ve stretched the service interval, how far have you gone past it (age and mileage)

10 years, 50,000 miles. Not changed.

Not wanting to be negative, but you sound like you want someone to tell you NOT to do the 10 year service! Yes it will 'll cost you several hundreds £ if you do it yourself, or in to the thousands if you pay a garage.
It's not just the cam belt, but all the other service ( or not ) items Inc all the oils.
Yer pays yer money and takes yer chance.
However, not many reports of can belt failures in here.

Nope. Don’t want anyone to advise me either way. I’m just interested. Even if I “proove” to myself it’s a risk worth taking, I will do it anyway.

I’ve left it 3 years past its date so I could combine with the coolant change at 10 years. I’ve done the gearbox oil. Never done the Haldex, but have chosen not to. (Cost of multiple services is as much as a new haldex). Traditionally I’ve changed oils twice as often as recommended. And I see the benefits of that.

Cam belt is a binary thing, and not very sexy (oil changes feel good!). You’ll see no performance improvement. All you’ll miss hopefully is trashing your valves.

Your haldex needs serviced at this age and mileage. It won't be long before your 4x4 becomes a 4x2! 🙄

Had my timing belt etc done at year 8 for c £420 by a trusted Indy. As an aside, outwith members of this forum, what percentage of FL2 owners have had their Haldex serviced or do they even know what a Haldex is.  MY 09 GS manual in Lago Grey, Wood Co arm rest and side bumper strips - now sold.

Just my opinion based on many decades in the automotive industry.
Putting off vital maintenance will bite you in the ass at the least convenient time.

A timing belt should cost about £400 from a good independent garage. However repairing the damage of a failed belt can run into a couple of £k.

Not spending £100 on Haldex fluid and filters will cost over £1k to fix.

It's always worth doing maintenance, as it's many times cheaper to do than repairing subsequent damage. 2009 Rimini Red SE TD4. Soon to be sold.

And those that go by the mileage and believe they can go past the 7Y/10Y because their mileage has not reached the recommended, will be too embarrassed to post on here

My Metro FL2 is still covered by an Extended Warranty and has been serviced by LR Main Dealer to the official LR Maintenance Schedule. It is booked in for its 10 year service in a month or so time. (with courtesy car)

Yes it is an expensive way of running a car, but these days guaranteed transport at all times is worth it.

One major failure has occurred - the Rear Differential was replaced earlier this year at no cost to me. (recovery and hire car is included)

Other turbo vane fault diagnosis/exercise/adjustment was covered free.

Only other non-routine/non-free faults were rear discs and pads, and (embarrassingly) a rear boot power point fuse. (I am sure that I had checked the right fuse but was wrong)

In my professional experience unnecessary routine maintenance can cause more trouble than good unless it is carried out correctly and carefully.

Parts need to be clean and debris free before reassembly, and be careful when using 'quick' cleaning

I was referring to the big 10 year service, which is a bit more than changing the cam belt, so obviously costs more. It's around 4 years ago I did mine, during Covid which may have increased the price of service items, but by the time I started at the front, and finished at the back, I seem to recall the service parts ( including a few tools I didn't have ) came to around £500.

Personally, the sheer inconvenience of suffering a breakdown along with its associated costs by far outweighs the costs of regular scheduled servicing. Having suffered a cam belt failure, along with unscheduled time off work, weeks without transport and the costs of repairing the damage done I’d much rather just do the servicing and have safe transportation for my family and I.

Did mine at 7 years myself - £158 (inc water pump, aux belt , pulley, tensioner, coolant). Jules

Just did mine myself last weekend at 105k miles 2013 model
It was a bit over due as the service interval was shortened to 7 years on later cars
It's very easy to swap yourself it took me about 4 hours all in but I think that could be done quicker next time
The kit cost just over £100 and then I needed a 5 litre drum of coolant

It's one of those that you will really regret not doing just get on with it

Yep, Do it yourself ... it is easier the more you do them!.
However, beware the problem of the plug/socket reliability on the crankshaft sensor. This applies equally to whether you do it or you pay someone else. A quick search on here will bring up the problem and the solution.
