If it has failed all electrical means - FOB, Dashboard Button, Tailgate Button, try pushing/pulling hard on tailgate while exercising switch in case something is jammed in latch.
I've had this happen, it was just soggy leaves from Dump Run. FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)

I would definitely try disconnecting the battery trick.

Bingo …

Thank guy guys

Had it more or less stripped from inside … WD40 on all mechanicals and electrical joints etc

Walking down from the meadow just tried the remote tailgate button one more time …
heard the pop from inside the mini-barn

YES!!! It had popped … after 3 months

Again, thank you guys … collective karma worked!
