Start button

Hi I have a Freelander 2.2 td4 GS 2014, I have a wierd problem every year when it gets cold, the car opens ok with remote fob, but when I try to start engine push button start. With foot on brake (auto) there is no ignition or cranking. If I continue to hold/repress start button several times over a period of five minutes it eventually starts. Cranks over fast starts right away runs fine. When warmer weather starts no problem. Have changed fob battery's. New car battery. It is like the start button not working in cold weather. Have removed and tried new button. Same problem. Has anyone came across this problem before.

Are you allowing the vehicle to boot up before allowing it to crank over? The Freelander 2 system boot sequence is quite long, so it's best to press the start button without a foot on the brake, which will boot the system and put the glow plugs on without having to crank the engine over. Once the boot sequence has finished, put your foot on the brake and press the start button again and it should start up ok.
Give it a go and see if it solves the problem. 2009 Rimini Red SE TD4. Soon to be sold.

A dead cell in the new battery. My neighbour had that. Voltage can look good, but when it comes to starting with 250amps you are trying to start from effectively a 10v battery.

I have seen this happen with 2 neighbours! Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

A good battery should show over 12.6V after resting for 12 hours. Anything less would suggest the battery is at the end of it's reliable life. 2009 Rimini Red SE TD4. Soon to be sold.

I,m with Nodge. Every time I start the car ,2010 auto, I press the button and let the car go through the sequence then foot on brake to start.
I even do this every time, even if I have just stopped at the village shop .
