Engine cover removal

Help please. Is there a special way to remove the engine cover.?
Two bolts, cannot find any more, funny screw? Sticking up at the back right.
Can lift the front of the cover but just cannot get it loose. What am I missing. Plenty on YouTube about removing covers but not an Fl2.
Thanks Jim A

Two bolts at the front and one 10mm nut at the back, give it a good tug upwards and it will come off sometimes easier if the remove the air intake pipe. 2013 FL2 XS.

Thanks Rommel, is the 10mil nut on the vertical screw.?
The screw does not have anything on it.
Cover is tight at that point.
Not desperate, read recently of some people having the sound deadening on the cover starting to perish.
Just decided to have a look. Anyway rain stopped play for today and tomorrow looks the same.
Thank you for your help and will try again.

Yes the nut would be on the vertical screw and I dropped mine the first time I took the cover off. It disappeared down the back of the engine!

Bob, that corner will not budge. Do i need to use brute force to get it to move?

Jim, you need to give it a sharp upwards pull, to separate the cover from the ball & socket mounts. (Now Sold). 2008 Freelander 2 (Nazca Sand) SE TD4 Auto. Statutory write off & on WOVR for hail damage but still road legal.

As said above. But I have the petrol engine. You really need to give the cover in each corner a very firm sharp hard tug a few cm. The ball & socket mounts are extremely tight. Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

If you skip to 30 seconds in this video, then you can see where the "hidden" 3rd nut location is: https://youtu.be/fuAY1_hFuPQ?si=myZ8TG0Bi_K_PWlE

To get the cover off, it is just a case of pulling it towards you with a decent amount of force. Some people take the pipe off at the back to make life easier, but it can be done with the pipe still in place. Smile

When you put it back , put some vaseline / grease on the balls - it will come off much easier next time. Jules
