Tax rates.

Got my tax reminder through and it’s just short of £400 for my 07 🥲.
I completed 1800 miles last year! Bring on tax per mile charges or the old girl will have to go.

Yes the £400 came as a shock to us too, it will be sorned over winter for sure. Trouble is to get cheap tax the car is a lot more money and full of a lot more electronics and sensors to go wrong. They make us pay one way or the other.

The auto must be different. Just received my reminder as well £320. Mine is a manual. Now at the point when I learn something new something old is lost out the other side !
Now retired so it doesn't matter anymore.
Freelander now gone.

Yes automatic must be more expensive as we’re automatic.

I think its to do with the C02 emissions. Early models are 214g/km and the tax rate is £390. Later models are lower at 185/km and the tax is £320

So Billsy, you’d spend a few thousand on a different car to save a couple hundred on tax??

I think a lot of people don’t want to pay the government anymore then they have to no matter what. I must admit it grate’s paying more for nothing.

I'm surprised at the variation in figures here! I paid £290 in April for mine - TD4e first registered in Nov '09 and CO2 rated at 179g/km.

Count me out from the clamour for a mileage based system - we do bigger miles up here, even just for essentials. Also, got to say that there is no way I would SORN it for winter! Shocked 2005 D3 2.7 Auto

Mine is automatic and the same £320 per year. There seems to little coherence with VED at first glance Rolling Eyes

Note the discrepancy in First Registered Date and MoT test date too… I have owned this car from long before its first ever MoT test became due and the test date has always been a month later than the registration anniversary date.
