Intermittent low performance

About 3 years ago I got a restricted performance indication. The dealer found a new EGR was needed. Recently the same low performance has started but there is no alarm and often it clears and goes well again. It is particularly bad after restarting using the start stop function when it will barely pull away. Turning that function off helps a lot. Any thoughts what may be happening appreciated.

It’s at least 5 years old (as that’s how long I’ve owned it), my wife did mention she saw a battery alarm , just once so maybe the battery is on the way out.
Could that explain low performance? I presume it could add load to the alternator but the performance loss is absolutely massive so could it make much difference?

I did add my details to my profile, not sure why it’s not displayed but it’s a 2013 2.2TDI GS manual.

Really don’t know but an old or week battery throws up lots of problems as it 5 year old at least I would fit a new one anyway.

Turning Stop/Start off is the very 1st thing I do after starting the engine (in both the FL2 and Civic) Pointless feature IMHO for me and where I drive & I'd rather not add cycle after cycle to components.

As SYFL2 says, the battery if not tip top can cause all sorts of issues - this does not sound like it but I wouldn't rule it out! 2014 Freelander 2 TD4 Manual Dynamic

Do you have an OBD code reader, and if so, do you have any error codes either live or pending?

This will give a clue to any iffy component.

In the meantime, I would try fitting a new battery, old batteries cause problems by fluctuating the voltage supplied to the various FL2 control units. FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)

Thank you, I do have an OBD reader but when I tried it it went haywire, is there a specific type needed?

Suspect a turbo hose thinking about failing, they often degrade from inside and sometimes a faint miss can be felt running on light throttle at around fifty MPH. It only gets worse, I’ve had it.

When this happened to my 1st FL2 it needed the fuel filter changing, was ok after that.

here is an example of battery faults causing problems. The car had been standing for 12 days, started up ok ,but my son put both heated seats on ,and heated front and rear screen, drove 500mts,severe lack of power,a message appeared on dash but disappeared before i could put my glasses on!so guessed ,battery low, turned off and re started .been fine now for 100 miles plus.
