My question is about the steering rack gaiters becoming detached at the inner side. Just back from an MOT where the failure was the above. The gaiters themselves were ok but apparently them slipping off under stress is common because they are only held on with plastic straps. I think they have used steel this time. Any suggestions other than better straps ??

I am answering this myself as nobody else did. I can only gather that this is not, in fact, a common problem. So not answering was an answer in a way.

Who says they are held on with plastic straps? All the ones I've ever seen are held on with metal ones.

As you say it is such a common problem, that no one else has ever heard about it! (Now Sold). 2008 Freelander 2 (Nazca Sand) SE TD4 Auto. Statutory write off & on WOVR for hail damage but still road legal.

I was told at the garage doing the MOT that replacement kits arrived with plastic straps. The originals had been replaced last year due to them being damaged.

Are these any good for anyone ?
