Handbrake not working

Hi, can anyone help? I've got a Fl2 HS on a 64 plate, the handbrake isn't working at all, guy said it could be the brake switch that connects to ECU as there was a fault on diagnostics and replaced it, nothing showing in diagnostics and no warning lights, but EPB is still not working.

Have you tried to reset it below is the procedure for deactivation and reactivation of the EPB

Rear Brake Deactivation Procedure

I signed up to Topix and printed off pad change instructions. Basically its the same as previous models except you have to set the park brake into service mode and then unset it again once job is finished.

Procedure is:

For Deactivation

Ensure its in park or neutral and the park brake deactivated and ignition turned on.

1. Press and hold the parking brake switch in the release position.

2. Wait 2 seconds

3. Press and hold the accelerator pedal in the wide open throttle position.

4. Wait 2 seconds

5. Turn ignition off and on immediately whilst still finger on park button and foot on throttle.

6. An audible noise will confirm service mode, it will also be displayed on dash.

You will hear the brake motors activate for a while.

For Reactivation

with ignition on.

1. Press and hold the parking brake switch in the apply position.

2. Wait 2 seconds

3. Press and hold the accelerator pedal in the wide open throttle position.

4. Wait 2 seconds

5. Turn ignition off and on again. keeping finger on park button and foot on throttle.

Hope this helps

Hi mate, yes I found it in manual last night, checked it earlier, it's okay, yet when the fuse is out it's saying park brake fault, but throws up no faults with it in and EPB not working, nuts!!

that to me says the circuitry is fine. but im not an auto-electrician.

Can you test the motors directly? AFAIK they can be removed from the caliper. My manuals do not include the EPB unfortunately. Jules

Couple of thoughts - probably worth nought but…

In my head I have something to with a door and perhaps a tail gate interlock - EPB won’t release if a door is 'open' - can it be engaged if door is open? Don't know but thinking of faulty door switch & car thinking door is open?

Given that fuse removal throws an error - suggesting that all is well as far as the ECU is concerned when the fuse is in place, could it be something as simple as the EPB on/off switch not making when it is lifted or depressed? As a momentary switch, if it is doing nothing at all it probably wouldn’t throw a fault.

There’s probably a good reason for me not being employed as a vehicle technician… Laughing
