Why do have I doubts about my third Freelander2

This concerns my third Freelander2 dated January 2014 an SD4 HSE spec. Previously I have had TD4 HSEs 2007 and 2011 plates. Does anybody know if Land Rover has altered the specification of the 2014 car particularly the power steering and the suspension set up. I ask because the ride seems softer and to my taste not as good as the previous cars which to my mind didn't roll as much and had a stiffer ride. The steering also seems altered and makes it not as satisfying to set the car up for a bend. Also if the steering wheel is pressured to turn against its resistance it fidgets left and right which the earlier cars didn't do.
These suspicions are confirmed when I drive an earlier Freelander2 courtesy car.
Any ideas please.
Thanks
Iain

England 2007 Freelander 2 TD4 HSE Manual Zermatt Silver

just a guess, is there a difference in wheel size between the ones you have owned ? I only have experience of my own 07 HSE when I changed the 18 inch alloys to 19 inch, I have convinced myself that the ride is firmer and the handling slightly better.

But overall, I feel it was better ride with the 18 inch wheels, 2017 SEAT Ateca 4drive 2.0 xcellence (May 2022 -
2007 HSE with HST bodykit in Zermatt Silver 169,700 miles (dec 2016 - May 2022 )

Could also be something as simple as tyre type (or size) and pressure. Regards

My 2014 XS certainly feels different and I put it down to a lot of parts from the Evoque being used post 2013. My previous FL2 was a 2011 with the same size wheels and tyres. To me it drives better but I was going from a manual TD4 to an auto SD4 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto
5 x FL2 4 manual + 1 auto
Now Discovery Sport P250 MHEV SE

I moved to a 2014 SD4 with 19" wheels - the ride is firmer and with less roll (presumably due the shorter tyre sidewalls as everything else is much the same). However my steering is not fidgety. Have you looked at the tracking etc. You dont mention the mileage - you could have worn bushes affecting the steering too. Jules

United Kingdom 2014 Freelander 2 SD4 Metropolis LE Auto Santorini Black

Our orange beastie became a bit rolly & fidgety around bends/roundabouts over the last month or so, it was getting annoying and stopping me enjoying the driving experience!

So I was getting the FL2 ready for it's MFK (MOT equivalent) recently and was re-mounting the exhaust heat shield and I noticed a small amount of leakage on both rear shock absorbers. Had them replaced and it now drives just great again! Very Happy

Just something to check out maybe, I assume yours has a lot less milles than ours which is almost 13 years old and has done 231,000 KM, but you never know.

Hope you get it sorted to your satisfaction.

Jekyll and Hyde car.

Lovely drive, handles well, LR tow pack adaptations make tugging my little caravan around easy peasy

BUT spoiled by seemingly unsolvable problem as illustrated in this video - not me but exact same noise.
However it affects my car as pulling away from standing or very slow speed on light throttle. Accompanied by momentary power blip but not in the "stuttering hesitation" category - and it only happens at above approx 15C. It can kick back through the transmission causing car to shuffle gears esp when towing which is not nice.
Source of noise identified but cause remains a puzzle. Others are in the same boat, dealer says they cannot even detect it it (actually they cannot be bothered to try and it's a dealer only warranty so I'm stuck - they actually said it was probably just a solenoid making the noise and more or less told me to sod off - jamesfrench.com I thank you. It seems from this forum that this is a no fix issue so I'm stuck with a lemon.

As with so many things in life it is not the problems with the product that influence choices and opinions but rather how those issues are handled that makes the difference. If you get a good one then you're lucky and should hang on to it.

I had this exact same problem bin! However, I think I've managed to cure mine (but developed another issue, which may be completely unrelated).

After living with it for months and replacing all hoses to silicone, new MAF sensor and had auto box reconditioned, the fault was still there. One day I floored my FL2, got up to 60mph and it jolted severely and went into limp mode. Got the garage to read the codes (as there were none before) and it pointed towards MAP sensor and IAT sensor.
Have since had them replaced with a new air and fuel filter during a service and the fault has gone!

My advice is to swap the MAP and IAT sensors (fairly cheap parts) and try that.

Fingers crossed for you

Thanks for that - glad to hear you reached a solution - I hope the new problem is not worse than the original Very Happy

I am planning on replacing the MAF, IAT and MAP sensors - as you say they are relatively easy to do.

Filters etc should all have been done on the pre-purchase service at the end of June - they did the cambelt and water pump at the same time so I don't think they'd have skipped on the fuel filter Rolling Eyes

Interestingly it has been pointed out to me that a possible 'cure' for this may also be found by fitting an EGR blanking plate (perforated). It may be awhile before the weather is warm enough to establish if that works, so in the mean time I'll swap out what I can and then in the spring - if it's still chuffing I can try the blanking plate.
