Summer 2018

Just as we talk of memorable snowy winters, we now have a memorable summer playing out as we speak. We are only in the 2nd month of the meteorological summer and the latest forecasts hint at a cooler showery period during the 2nd half of July but then the furnace comes back. No substantial rain in the forecast at all.

It was the hottest June since 1976, we haven’t had rain for weeks on end, the grass is going brown and we have moorland fires cropping up.

Personally, I enjoy aspects of summer such as sitting out with a cold beer in the evening and we’ve just got back from a superb week in the Lakes but I do prefer winter. I have hayfever which is irritating, it’s more difficult to sleep when it’s hot and I’d appreciate some variation to this summer. It’s just non stop furnace Shocked LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby

Good point. Interestingly, I can’t say I’ve noticed many wasps! Plenty of bees knocking around though.

Don’t get me wrong, I’ve experienced temps around 45C (in Arizona) that make this summer feel easy but that’s on holiday and everywhere has air con. We are just not used to relentless heat and there are other impacts such as that bin lorry that sunk into the hot tarmac!

I’ll be taking the dog a walk after 9 when it’s cooler for him 🐶 LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby

I ain’t a fan of the heat either, I mean it ain’t natural in Scotland to open the blinds every morning and be greeted with burning bright sunshine. 21MY Defender 90 S 3.0 D200

Remember someone telling me that people who like the hot weather were born in the summer and those who prefer the cold were born in the winter.
Works for me I hate the heat and was born in February. prefer the nights rather than daytime as well.

What about you guys? Common sense isn't very common.

a few years ago I spend 4 months on a busmans holiday just south of the equator in Brazzaville, Congo. (it was meant to be 2 weeks but Censored happens Laughing )

we left UK in the middle of March with temps of about 7deg and landed in Congo to a night time temp of around 40deg with about 80% humidity - instantly soaked in sweat.

2 weeks later I was out doing 5 mile runs in it and daily work. We had a massive thunderstorm one night, flooded everything in minutes, but 20 mins after it finished everything was bone dry again.

im actually loving this hot weather at the minute, bring me more Cool

It needs to stay dry for another few hours as I may be in a cave that has strange reaction to the rain. It can react a few days after a storm several miles away. Currently will be as dry as it ever gets. Quite topical really with recent events.

Diver in the film called Watto we took on his very first caving trip with a few friends. (my friend died cave caving years ago). Geoff Crossley a cave diver in the film was all over the TV yesterday, both BBC and SKY, he also recovered my friends body back then. Sid who made the film is alive and well, now over 80 and lives in Thailand. FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years
