Gearbox Fault Traction Reduced

Hi all,

Yesterday after not using my 2014 Freelander2 SD4 for 2 weeks I got the message ‘Gearbox Fault Traction Reduced’. I’ve searched and read loads of posts about the heldex issues (mainly pumps).

My particular issue happened in this order:
1) Low battery warning appeared (I get this when not used for a while)
2) Rear tyre low pressure warning (this was true)
3) Gearbox Fault Traction Reduced

I switched off/on several time but still got the gearbox warning so drove the car for 10 miles to charge the battery. The gearbox fault warning has now gone

Does anyone know the following:

1) I’ve read the gearbox fault error can appear if the battery is low. Is this true?
2) After all my searching I keep reading that the heldex oil/filter should be regularly changed although Land rover don’t have this listed in the service schedule. Should this be done and if so should I consider it with only 26,000 miles?

Many thanks for any help it’s much appreciated.
Paul

First thing to do is to give the battery a really good charge. This fault does seem to show when the battery is a bit down

For what it is worth, I had my haldex serviced at about 60k and vehicle age of about 3 1/2 years old. I have had no re-occurrence of the message since I reported my experiences on this forum

Oh and I have now replaced the battery as a precaution

Steve

Get a trickle charger / battery conditioner and service the Haldex at no later than 30K to 40K and all will be well. By service I mean have it removed and fully cleaned, helps if you can visit Bell Engineering in the Midlands. FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

Can anyone recommended a land rover specialist to do the Haldex service near Skipton, North Yorkshire?

Got this message on my MY14 yesterday. Remained on throughout my journey, continued driving perfectly. After a stop for about 45 minutes it disappeared and hadn't returned since. I have had haldex oil and filter change on my to do list for a while now, currently on 65k miles so ordered them yesterday and will change these at earliest opportunity. I'll pull the pump out as well to check the screen filter on it but believe on this age of fl2 that you need to remove the prop shaft and drive flange on the diff. Can anyone advise what size of nut holds the drive flange on? I intend to make up a tool to hold the flange to prevent it turning while removing the nut, probably from flat metal bar. Does anyone have such a tool and could let me know dimensions and spacing of holes? (I'll submit a separate post on this) Landrover - turning owners into mechanics since 1948

I also had the same on my 64 plate, turn off car start again message gone, eventually it failed to start... battery flat (original LR battery) replaced with a new Yuasa battery and no messages or starting problems since, The FL2 does not like a low/knackered battery one bit. 94 Disco 300 TDI Gone

Yep, noticed that can be an issue too and I'm still on my original battery also. Never showed any other signs of battery fault, always starts 1st time even in cold. I need to do the haldex service anyway and may add additional earth strap too.
