small automatic cars advice please

My wife has decided that she wants to change her 56 reg Peugeot 207 for something newer and after driving the FL2 she now wants an auto. So we have just got back from test driving a Kia Picanto 1.25 auto which at about £12k new looks well equipped, drives nicely and she seemed happy with the performance. I was impressed by the 7yr 100k warranty and £2k for the Peugeot on their "scrapage scheme". Also offered finance at 2.5% so less than inflation. So has anyone else been through this process for a small run about? I might go and have a look at a Hyundai i20 next.
Any suggestions or comments? 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto
5 x FL2 4 manual + 1 auto

Mrs Dorset,

Kia Picanto recently voted 'Best City Car'. A very good friend of mine, she bought one for her daughter, after passing her test.

Got a Suzuki Celerio auto 16 plate earlier this year with 853 miles, cat c, lovely car to drive round town very good mpg, standard with AC, 4 x electric windows, dab radio, more than enough room for 4 adults, tax free, not a patch on a f2 but horses for courses it's a great little car. Common sense isn't very common.

Suzuki Ignis? They seem popular

Available with mild hybrid but I think that’s manual only. 21MY Defender 90 S 3.0 D200

A few years back on a works trip to Dallas , I rented a Kia Soul automatic . I know it’s not everyone’s cup of tea, but I actually found it quite a funky thing . It was easy and pleasant to drive . The big plus was it’s shape which made quite a spacious little van sort of thing with the rear seats folded. The other rental I really enjoyed was in Madeira where we had a Smart car. Automatic with a flappy paddle box , cracking little thing . 2009 GS Auto Zermatt Silver - Sold June 21 after 10 years of ownership

Not sure how she feels going from a subcompact 207 to a mini compact Kia picanto

I would suggest to pickup one of these
New VW Polo
Peugeot 208
Ford fiesta
Toy Yaris

I've hired a Fiat 500 in Italy for a month, nice car but it is a bit too small for any practicality, & very hard suspension. Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

She decided that the Picanto is too small so that's progress. No sign of a LandRover supermini in the pipeline I suppose? She did fancy a Fiat Panda 4x4 once having seen so many in the Alps and Pyrenees. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

my past experience of small automatics is limited but IMO the smaller engines just don't work with an auto box

my ex fiancé could only drive auto (driving wasnt the only thing she was useless at Laughing ) Her first car was an old fiesta 1.3 CVT which was actually pretty good but she drove into the corner of my house and bent the car out of shape so it leaked badly. She part ex that for a brand new Corsa 1.2 easytronic and that was just plain awful. Slow, always in the wrong gear, no guts when even slightly loaded or going up a slope. (although last MOT in 2015 puts it at 140k miles!!)

my preference for an auto would be something like a Focus 1.5D auto, good car, well built, well equipped, and able to cope with an auto box nicely

Maybe .... Just maybe ......... she knew how to spell fiancée.

fiancé
a man to whom a woman is engaged to be married.

I refer to my ex-wife as ......... 'my late wife'.
Not because she is dead, she was just never any good at time keeping.

My other half has driven a mii Cooper S Clubman auto for years and is simply joined to it at the hip - she'll have no talk of changing it and why would she; small, nippy, practical and a shed load of fun oh and pretty quick when it needs to be. F2 3.2 i6 for the white stuff

We had the i20 in Majorca, excellent wee car. SWMBO has had a Kia Soul for while now over here and loves it. If it wasn't so bad it'd be funny.
