2007 Freelander 2 TD4 XS Manual Indus Silver
Replacing the battery

Sounds dumb I know but what do I need to know about changing the battery on my 56 Freelander. Alarms, GPS, phone connectivity etc I assume will be affected.
Any recommendations as to which battery and spec.

At most, you’ll just need to reset the clock, radio stations and electric windows. You need a 110 battery. Get the best you can afford - they’ll all be better than a duff one! Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto

One tip, maybe you all know this but I didn't. My replacement battery at first didn't seem to fit the battery box, and eventually I found there were some bits you needed to unclip from the base of the battery. Outlined in red here ..

Assuming the car is still drivable get it down to Halfords who will do all the frigging about for a fiver - you know it makes sense. Smile

Edit - my mistake they want £15 to fit battery . Notwithstanding still worthwhile i reckon. MY 09 GS manual in Lago Grey, Wood Co arm rest and side bumper strips - now sold.

LOL. I've been in the trade for over 40 years. Fitted hundreds of batteries on all sorts of vehicles. I bought the exact same battery for my Evoque a few weeks back, couldn't fit it and nearly took the damn thing back until I matched it up with the one I took off and then it dawned on me to flick those bits off with a screwdriver! Just start the car and then take off the battery terminals fit the new battery and you loose nothing !!

A couple of points:
Batteries have been discussed on here multiple times. Do a search for discussions about which make, size, etc.
It is possible to get a battery with more power than the original fitment but the same size.
You presumably don't have stop-start, so don't need an AGM battery.
When I fitted mine (exide I think - it was a long time ago) I had to prize out a bung in the end of the battery in order to fit the breather tube from the old one.
Your mileage trip counter will zero itself and you may need to reset the windows. How to details are in the handbook. Ex AA Series III LWB Safari - Gone
300TDi Disco (bought new - terrible car) sent back after 18 months
Freelander 1 Estate - leased, given back at end of lease
200TDi Disco (bought from a mate with 100,000 on the clock) - Gone
Disco 2 TD5 - sold and exported to France
FR2 TD4 GS - Gone
FR2 SD4 HSE - Now changed for a DS
New model ex-demo Evoque S 180 in white
Unable to order a new DS, so gave up. Now have a Volvo S90 Recharge.

Scotland 2010 Freelander 2 TD4_e GS Manual Zermatt Silver

Followed the advice of tenet above and took the faff of fitting a new battery to Halfords. Got the same battery as SteveD and aesmith and glad I had read on here about these bits that need removing! Of course, they didn’t believe me and I had to talk them through the whole procedure, so apart from the actual lifting, i’m not sure I really got much for my £15! Still didn’t stopstart on the way home, but there were no traffic lights to test it out! 2005 D3 2.7 Auto

2010 MY FL2 TD4e GS - Now gone at 199,500 miles, about 135,000 of them mine.
‘93 Defender 110 200TDi CSW
‘87 Defender 90 4 cyl Petrol
‘83 110 CSW V8 - best ever!
