United Kingdom 2008 Freelander 2 TD4 XS Manual Santorini Black

sadly the bmw engine was joined to a rover clutch Rolling Eyes I did like my fl1 it withstood some rough treatment on the farm, but I cannot really recommend one knowing what I know about them from my and a few friends experiences.

Don't forget that my FL1 with the BMW diesel engine was joined to the drive train by an auto box, so no clutch.

In some ways I think I preferred the FL1 auto box to the FL2 auto, but both great in my opinion.

ok... maybe I was talking about the Nissan Patrol - fantastic cars - had many and done Cape York (Oz) and many other 4wd trips without fault. But you don't really hear of many issues with the X-Trail either - well, not as many as the FL1.

Don't get me wrong though, as I have owned 3x FL1s in the past, the first being the best - first diesel ('98 manual), a little down on power but still loads of fun and I av. approx 5.5lt/100klm. No issues what so ever with it. The later two were problems - both the V6 and Td4 (BMW engine) with autos. Nothing actually wrong with the engines (apart from the VIS on the V6, and the Td4 is rough when cold) BUT had so many issues with my Td4 it was not funny... all from a strange 'clunk' noise in the front end - eventually most of my 2004 FL's front end became a 2005 with all the parts they replaced trying to solve the problem, which they finally did after a total of 36days (in 3 months) at the dealer service dept. Also had front seat replaced twice, rear glass sensor replaced twice, and the HDC light kept on flashing like it was posessed!

I know you guys are pushing the FL1, but in my experience the last shape X-trail diesel is better - has more power than the FL1 (even the BMW engine), 6 speed manual, loads more space inside, and the styling is not bad... of course it does not have the personality of the FL1, and that could be the deal breaker for some.

and I will say again - DON'T buy a Jeep if you are just going to stay on the black stuff... really not great road cars. ______________________________
