I got Restricted Performance error on console the other day. I read the error code using my obd2 connector and came out as P242A. Cleared the ECU fault list and it was ok for a little while but it happened again a day later. Cleared again and it has not come on again for the past 2 days.

looking it online I see that it is related to the exhaust gas temperature sensor:

Possible causes would be:
1. Faulty Exhaust Gas Temperature Sensor (EGTS) Bank 1 Sensor 3
2. Exhaust Gas Temperature Sensor Bank 1 Sensor 3 harness is open or shorted
3. Exhaust Gas Temperature Sensor Bank 1 Sensor 3 circuit poor electrical connection
4. Exhaust leaks
5. Excessive particulate matter buildup on sensor

I think i better check the sensor to see if all is well, maybe put some dielectric grease and clean the node a bit with brake cleaner or contact cleaner?

my question is, does anyone know where this is on the TD4?

Looks like its back of engine near the exhaust but diagram I can see is poor and instructions may as well be in Russian as not worth paper written on. There are copies of manuals on the net, find by googling. FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

it seems that it is accessible from the bonnet somehow, by removing the engine cover. I have the haynes manual for my car but it does not give an illustration of where or which is the sensor! it just says that it is connected to the manifold.

No better either unfortunately. It mentions to use a high temperature anti seize grease. Fo you thing copper grease would be ok?

Brakes get really hot and cold and sit in water so Copper Grease should be just fine if not touching any sensor face. If in further doubt do a google.  FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

Finally had time to check the sensor and I can tell you that it is a b*itch to get to.

The haynes manual says that you just have to remove the top cover but that does not reveal the sensor at all. IT does make it a little bit easier to access the clip to the harness though - it is a red wire on the right of the engine.



To access the actual sensor you will have to lift the car on axle stands and get under it. Next remove the protective cover and then follow the silencer to manifold and through the subframe you will notice the temperature sensor next to another sensor. It is quite hard to get to, but I managed to get my hands one from near the suspension and the other from where I was looking.

The sensor was too hard to loosen though so I could not manage - will try again soon when the engine is hot and using some penetrating oil. hopefully it will loosen up.
