Opinion On Prices For Work To Be Done

Hi, I am off on holiday next week so I thought it would be a good time to put my Freelander 2 in for some work that needs doing.
Can you give your opinion on the price that has been quoted.

Replace intercooler £400
Replace timing belt and water pump £500
Full service, described as a comprehensive one and not the usual one I have each year £375

The garage is a small independent and the owner is a LR enthusiast, used them for a few years and always been happy with there work.

Thanks Thumbs Up

Its a big list and financial hit but easiest way to see if its competitive is go and price a few parts on the net and ask your local main dealer what is the cost of a 10 year service to include a cam belt /water pump change etc.

If the guy stands by his work you may find its not a killer price but on the service he does need to change ALL the transmission fluids and service the Haldex filters so I would ask if he intends to take the Haldex out to put in a new filter and clean the pump filter. FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

Also on the Intercooler job , check if the price is for fitting a Landrover Original Equipment unit , or an aftermarket pattern part. I know when we had the Aircon Condenser replaced the aftermarket unit was half the LR price for a quality aftermarket unit with a 2 year warranty , and we could have gone cheaper still if we were moving the car on Whistle

Obviously the labour is the labour , your Indy will tell you what is included if you ask , and I suspect you have more faith in him than going to a main dealer. 2009 GS Auto Zermatt Silver - Sold June 21 after 10 years of ownership

My advise would be stay with the garage if your happy with the past work carried out, the price quoted seems fair enough.
My experience of the dealers has been shocking over the last few years and is probably why i wont buy another Land rover vehicle.

Just curious, but why do you need an intercooler?
Has it been damaged in some way?
Not a difficult job to do yourself after removing the bumper. Now at the point when I learn something new something old is lost out the other side !
Now retired so it doesn't matter anymore.
Freelander now gone.

I only have on street parking here and I have never even changed a set of brake pads so a step too far for me to tackle.
