Taken up the rear and he didn't even buy dinner first...

Hi all,

Quick one for you. I got rear ended by a guy in a Mercedes earlier and was wondering if there are any major points to check for damage?

Looking at the rear bumper I can't see any contact and he seems to have just destroyed his number plate and cracked the front bumper on my tow bar. All sensors still work so can't have been so hard but am a bit worried about chassis damage.

Seems like the automated anti-collision Censored was having a day off...

If his front end was still attached to your tow ball I would would worry about chassis damage, front ends fall off very easily in most minor bumps. Laughing my PC is slightly to the right of Genghis

For a start I'd chest the boot floor, take the wheel out and have a good look around. I got rear ended once, it felt more like a small bump. No broken bumper just a slight scratch on the paintwork. But there was a noticeable bulge in the boot floor pan. GS Sd4 2012

From what I can see underneath there's no visible warping or any signs of stress at any of the connection points or on the towbar itself.

Only thing I can see is the gubbins above the exhaust seem a bit loose but this might possibly be how it's supposed to be and I've just never noticed. Looks like some kind of heat deflector...

The guy stopped with me Yorky and immediately admitted fault so that's at least that's something. Poor fella seemed a bit shaken up by it. Don't blame him when we looked at the damage to his bumper!

Have booked in for a local garage to give her a once over to check for any other signs of damage so fingers crossed we're all good Bow down

A few years back my wife's Renault Megane got rear ended and there was no visible damage, however when I looked in the boot I found that I couldn't get the spare wheel out as the well was distorted. Everything else had popped back into shape. So have a good look inside. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

SWMBO's 206SW was hit in the rear by a focus. Tow bar was bent up, rear boot floor bent. Beyond economic repair. Get it checked properly!
