Head Unit replacement

Hi all,

I have spent some time searching and trawling through various posts (Gave up when I went back to 2013!) trying to establish if there is a head unit out there which will be a straight swap for the original in my 2007 HSE.

My car has parking sensors which I understand can be a problem so wondering if anyone has overcome this or found a head unit which essentially plug and play?

I would like something that has Bluetooth for both phone calls and music. It would be good if the steering wheel controls could be used to skip through tracks etc.

Thanks in advance for any help/ advice

if its just for hands free and music streaming get a Parrot MK9200 fitted.

I had one in my GS, the screen was mounted at the top right of the head unit, with the cabling through the gap between the head unit and the trim.
The control unit is a wireless one, and can be stuck anywhere but I mounted mine on the inside of the steering wheel, where the factory fit hands free controls should be.

Worked fine and quality was good.

There is a very detailed thread on here somewhere about fitting a Pioneer head unit with Apple Car or whatever it is called. It lists all the parts needed to keep everything working. From what I could tell though it was a very expensive bit of work. The head units aren't cheap, then you need various harnesses and depending on your current head unit, possibly a new amp.

If you have an aux in in your car like I do, I bought a nice little Bluetooth receiver for a out £15 that I have mounted on the dash just behind the steering wheel. It gives me the ability to skip tracks and if I wanted, take and make calls. Much cheaper and much simpler. But not as elegant.

Bought a Micra - great little car
"Upgraded" to Kia Sportage - hated it
Proper upgrade to FL2 TD4 GS 60 reg Facelift - tailgate paint issues, fuel gauge rewire, transfer box failure at 36k miles, clutch at 60k
Reconditioned diff at 70k ish
Sold at 84k and now on a DS. Terribly unreliable.

i have the same Bluetooth receiver, working great with good sound quality.
i did not use the supplied power plug as it sticks out too much and i also bought an angled USB adapter.
The wires went in to the ashtray.

Nice ànd neat there. I have mine up by the steering wheel so there is a bit of a cable run. But worth it for ease of control of music. Learned to drive in 2011.

I've tried all sort of things, Nexus 7, Asus Zenpad 7" but finally tried and fitted a very cheap Chinese Nozatec system which cost £38. This runs iGo software on win 6.0 CE and is surprisingly very good. It also has bluetooth and a AV-In socket which has allowed me to run the navigator through the Radio Aux and attach a reversing camera to it. The down side is it only displays at 800 x 400. I did have my doubts as to how good it was but surprisingly it's still going strong. The other bonus is it starts and stops with the engine and fits snugly in the cubbyhole.

I have to say as much as I'd love a nice Android Auto head unit, I find the most user friendly and up to date device is in fact my own phone, mounted on a simple holder. It does all my music, maps and phone and is quite big so the screen is perfectly visible. Learned to drive in 2011.
