United Kingdom 2010 Freelander 2 SD4 XS Manual Santorini Black
Weird things going on.

I have made a log for the dealer when the car goes in on Wednesday. I have been having some strange goings on with my Sd4 recently. Cannot seem to find a correlation between situations. It either gets near to stopping, revs drop to nearly stalling then kick back to life, after coming to a stop tries to start again and lurching forward and jaulting or when stationary at lights with foot on brake in Drive, the revs hunt up and down. Soon as I release brake pedal and reapply it's fine again most times. Here is a few notes I have taken to submit to the dealer. Anyone had anything similar? It only happens once every other day or so.

Here it is...

Car Issues

Never on open road. Always in town traffic conditons. Light to moderate throttle applications.

Revs hunting at idle. Once every 3-4 days.

When coming to a stop, occasionally revs drop to below idle, almost stalling but kicks back up again before stalling.

Sometimes when coming to a stop, it jerks forward a little.

Occasionally it feels like throttle has very quickly but very slightly been released and re-applied a tiny bit.

22/09/2016 - coming to a roundabout, just before stop, just before it felt like it jumped forward and jaulted

23/09/2016 - Pulling away light throttle had two hesitations, engine cold.

23/09/2016 - engine revs hunting slightly whilst in Drive. Engine warm

25/09/2016. 17:38 - lurched forward slightly after stopping. Foot firmly on brake. Engine warm. Air con off.

I'm a little confused on the model of your car, the SD4 is a MY13 model and an auto yet your profile car shows you having a 2010 manual, which one is it? as the answers will vary dependant upon the car.

I think Gary has a 2010 SD4 from previous posts, from what I can work out it is a 2011MY and was introduced in Sept 2010 Smile my PC is slightly to the right of Genghis

Hi Dartman good to hear from you Smile , yes I meant a 2011 (silly brain moment,I had one myself) before my 2013 one. It was just the car icon next to the flag is saying a manual car that threw me. Thumbs Up

In that case perhaps the switch on the brake pedal that integrates with the auto box software when coming to a halt and taking off again is dodgy.

sounds exactly like what my old one used to do.
They changed everything, the only thing that eventually sorted it was a new turbo, the original one was sticking in the same place all the time causing a loss of pressure and power.

This has just had a massive turbo clean and it drives perfectly with no loss of power at al.

Does that mean you threw some gunk in the intake to the turbo, or the inlet manifold or was it removed and cleaned? my PC is slightly to the right of Genghis

I had similar engine symptoms on a BMW, turned out to be faulty cam and crank sensors.

I don't mind what it is as long as they can fix it. Because it is stupidly intermittent I'm worried they'll turn around and say they don't know what is causing it! I have a video of bouncing revs to prove that something is going on.
